I hope not. The only person that could do Ava justice is Angelina Jolie. She IS the modern Ava.

I guess Angelina could work, I'm just worried the whole "Angelina" persona will take over when she's trying to play Ava.

Style UK

Step back in time this season and take a leaf out of the books of sexy stars from bygone eras such as Audrey Hepburn and Ava Gardner. Backcombed, bond-girl style silhouettes were everywhere on the catwalks, and they have been translated into reality by the likes of Scarlett Johansson and the eternally original Amy Winehouse with their beehive hairdos that are simply gravity defying. But remember, Ava did it first!

The Retro look represents a time we equate with prominence, elegance, good social upbringing and pride. Lavish Hollywood sets and big star names such as Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, Jean Harlow, Lean Horne, Ava Gardner, Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell, Lauren Bacall to name a few-were synonymous with styles and trends. All were fashionable ladies whose attire reflected their current times. And fans couldn’t get enough of it, to the retailers’ delight. For instance, legions of fans copied the slinky black dresses Ava Gardner wore in "The Killers" and "The Hucksters."

Ava Gardner began her career first as a model, then as a contract player at MGM, where her gawky, unsophisticated demeanor was totally made over by the studio into an image of inaccessible glamour. In fact, Ava was briefly with the famous Powers Agency-a famous modeling agency, where Ava learned how to expertly apply makeup, how to walk, style her hair and the finer points of grooming.

For my own part, I acknowledge the Golden Age of Hollywood glamour that fur has to offer. I’m also the first to admit that I run my hand over the racks of russet, black and chestnut furs in op shops, because they are tactile and I can’t resist. I mean, who wouldn't want to look and feel like Ava Gardner on a glamourous night out? And even if you do feel like Marilyn Monroe or Ava Gardner sashaying around in an oversized, plushy fur garment, the reality is that you probably look a whole lot more like a pimp/J. Lo/someone who shops at Crown Casino, only on a budget.

St James Encyclopedia of pop culture

Tall and lissome, Gardner was frequently likened to a panther and her sinuous grace inspired publicists for The Barefoot Contessa to trumpet her as "The World's Most Exciting Animal." Dark-haired, smokily glamorous, and husky-voiced, her sex appeal was subtly come-hither, and with her "natural" quality she was a beauty both dazzling and refreshingly uncontrived.

Great pictures Scriptgirl!

I don't root for Angelina as Ava because while I think she has the right kind of sex-appeal and charisma, people only see Angelina when she is on screen, not the character she plays.
I also don't think she can be made to look like Ava and beside, she doesn't have the right body.

Ashley Judd would have been OK ten years ago. She looks wretched these days but could play the older Ava.

I like Rachel Weisz, with the right make-up and a good hair cut she can look a bit like Ava (she already has the beautiful green eyes) and she is a great actress with a good screen presence which is much more important imo.
I don't want anyone butchering the role and make Ava look bland and boring like that horrid Kate Beckinsale in The Aviator.

Harumi, thanks for the pics. True, people only see Angelina onscreen, but for a role about Ava that is the point. They are really so much alike!

Good recommendation from Harumi, i like Rachel also, she's so beautiful, but i'm not sure she can look like Ava, anyway, her beauty deserves a role as Ava, just wonder how she can perform to bring the feeling of Ava's embody. In many of her movies, i always think she often act innocent girl which is not alike Ava.
