Fashion is a vampire

Ava Gardner was stunning and sophisticated, and her sleek, elegant style reflected that. She always looked impeccable in glamorous dresses, long gloves, furs, or feminine blouses and skirts. She was married to Frank Sinatra during most of the 50's and became a legend for wonderful performances in films such as "The Barefoot Contessa," "One Touch of Venus," and "Mogambo." I think she is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood history, with her more exotic looks, killer figure, and grace. Who knew she was originally a country girl from the South!

The name Ava conjures up lots of images of famous women, past and present. From Ava Gardner to the character in Grey's Anatomy that was saved from the ferry boat accident without a face or a memory. But not matter what other Avas you might know, the name Ava Gardner is the first that springs to our mind, and quite possibly yours as well.

And why not? The star of over 50 films with numerous television appearances, she brings to mind a time long past of old Hollywood glamour and big epic pictures that had to rely on character development and sound writing rather than big special effects.

We don't know if Ava the icon was the inspiration for Chloe's Ava bag, but we don't see why she couldn't be. This gorgeous bag has the signature turn clasp and is made with the finest brown leather. At $1800, it better have signature touches and great materials!

The problem with the Chloe Ava bag (as well as Ms. Gardner herself) is that both are unobtainable in some way. Gardner for obvious reasons and the Chloe bag because $1800 is just too much money for most to pay. But that doesn't mean you have to go without – Baghaus has not one but two bags inspired by the Ava.

The Baghaus Ava comes in your choice of black or tan with cream accents . It has a center dividing section and several pockets and cubbies for change, keys and cell phones. It also has a much easier to manage magnetic clasp instead of a cumbersome zipper like the Chloe. Maybe we should call that the Baghaus signature

I have been designing and selling my work since I was 14, that was 1968! The first thing I ever sold was a grey felt handbag with apples appliqued on the front in a very 'pop art' style. I spend a lot of my free time watching old Hollywood movies, so the bags used by Tippi Hedren, Ava Gardner and the likes always fascinate me. Ava's glamour in particular has been a huge inspiration.

This Roberto Cavalli Animal Print Bracelet Bag in a fetching leopard print certainly isn’t for the shy. Sexy and lavish accents like a front flap, gold leather trim, and a seductive gold serpent bracelet handle set this kitty apart from other clutches. There’s just a hint of Ava Gardner 1940s chic to this standout bag, and it will take any little black dress from girl next door to femme fatale, mimicking Ava's trajectory from North Carolina farm girl to global star.
