Balenciaga F/W 09.10 Paris

I can't help but think that when Nicolas does something this commercial its because the big bosses want it to sell better. After all, isn't it Balenciaga Edition and Capsule that sells better than the collections.

I always prefer when he does futurism as opposed to archives. I like the draping and colors on some of the pieces, but I am struggling to see Nicolas hand in most of this. I see it in shoulders, and Iris's look as Spike pointed out, but a lot of this if you didn't tell me it was Balenciaga I wouldn't know.

It's pretty but it's just 'meh'. It doesn't wow me the way Balenciaga normally does and to be quite honest I'm really disappointed with this collection.

If this is indeed designed with money in mind, then I kind of see the whole collection as a rebellion on Nicholas' behalf. The washed out colours aren't really going to look flattering on anyone, and the awkward positioning of the draping on the jackets is going to be so hard to pull off.
I thought the F/W 07 show was a great mix between wearable, influential and futuristic. Unfortunately, I don't think this show is going to be remembered as any of those things.

LOVE this...i love the change from last season...
it feels very european, while alot of other stuff has been trashy 80s or club-kid 80s...
and i don't know what's with all the "so commercial" comments...
if you've been following the house, nicolas always goes back and forth between out there and wearable...
the entire collection with the blazers and jodhpurs was wearable...

no really what is this. i like some of the silk outfits but that's it. im a HUGE NG fan but this is so boring and just... 'meh'. im kinda disappointed :|

and the colors and prints are overall really bad (for my taste)

Now. Ghesquire has been designing safe, commerical pieces for Balenciaga for some time now, he just hasn't shown them on the runway before. In that regard I appreciate the honesty. I would have liked a little more oomph.

Not sure abot the printed chiffon dresses with the shoulder pads, a little too 80's YSL/Dynasty. These are exactly the clothes I'd imagine Ghesquire's mother wearing back when he was a child....

finally something to wear! the draped dresses with the shoulders are so YSL but with a futuristic balenciaga print. and the trousers are very good too. and the ankle boots with the big sash of satin make me dreamy......

I'm sooo disappointed. Some garments are very beautiful, but where is the Balenciaga touch and sipirit in this collection ?

Balenciaga is one of the few shows I expect so much... and this collection, as far I'm concerned, is not unique and avant-garde in a good way as Balenciaga is usually

commercial does not mean lifeless.....especially at this time, designers should be strengthening their statement, not trying to make it safe.....btw, i don't see the drapes side swag skirts & jackets at all commercial!....no-one wants to invest in something which makes your hips look twice as large....this is a very mixed bag of clothes, with no clear message or statement....

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. I had a dream last night that I would not like Balenciaga, and it's too bad it came true.

I'm mostly pissed that Nicholas had to jump on the 80's bandwagon. Since when does Nicholas Ghesquiere ride a bandwagon?!?! Like ilaughed mentioned, this feels very Marc Jacobs/ LV SS 09 and Balmain. The color scheme is too spring, the shoes are lame, the prints could have been interesting on a clean, structured silhouette, but they look messy on these over draped dresses and tops, I hate the nylons...this is just heartbreaking, really.

I mean, the guy has been on a roll and, in my book, up until this point, he hasn't designed a collection that I've disliked in about 5 years, so I guess a misstep was bound to happen. I think the only pieces I like in this collection are the draped suits on Raqual, Kim and Magdalena. That's really about it.

Oh no my Nicolas! What have you done? I think the collection itself is great, but not obviously what I expected to be, coming from NG. This seems wearable, so wearable that I can't believe this is a Balenciaga collection. He has done wearability before, like in FW 07, but still, they had some edge and this... this is so wrong

Noooo!!! This is not Balenciaga!! I feel so guilty for not liking it because this is the brand made me pay attention to high fashion. I don't need to see futurism every time but there should be innovation. The prints are terrible. I do like some of the draped skirts and pants. I was POSITIVE Nicholas would not do anything 80's inspired like so many have and yet he did. I really hate to be this disappointed by my favorite designer.

WOW 80s are officially back, damn, well thank god they at least look better this time around.

Finally someone who doesn't say "I already did this in the 80s, I don't want to do it again." I'm a bit sick of hearing that to be honest, because things DO look better this time around. Maybe I'm not justified in saying so because I don't exactly remember the 80s but even the certain shapes and patterns that refer back to that time period are still relevant for now and they came about more organically out of past trends. Nothing is that surprising...
