Balenciaga F/W 09.10 Paris

another f/w 09 disappointment.

the first few skirts were so stunning, but the rest is... i don't really have words.

After seeing this collection in HQ, I'm starting to love it.

OMD!!!

I was waiting for this, i was soooo tired of his 2007-2008 and SS 09 look!!!!

finally, i love it, LOVE IT!!!

The start of a new era?
If one thing is clear is that whether we like it or not, this collection breaks up with the path that nicholas had been following since around fall 2006 when he started sculpting in classic balenciaga volumes, new petite proportions and statement shoes. It all looked extremely modern and a huge breakthrough every time, but it was always in terms of new materials, new technologic approaches... not very "romantic"
I havent had a chance to look back at previous work, but a priori i get a bit the same feeling of what he was doing around 2004-2005... the ruffles, a certain wearability in terms of not so much futurism, a bit more warm feeling.
it's good to see every once in a while that without falling into boredom and easy formulas he knows a thing or two other than his perfect graphic silhouettes.
to make a long story short: i (almost) love it AND i'm sure it will eventually grow on me until i adore it

EDIT: second thought... the draped skirts could've been shorter, and the heels higher!

half of this made me say "oh my god, what a nightmare". i hate the runway, first of all. it looks cheesy to me. those prints are giving me a headache, i hate the looks with that piece of leather wrapped around the waist, too. it looks really cheap. then there are those dresses that are completely shapeless and just look like the models awkwardly wrapped a large piece of fabric around themselves many times. then the polka dotted stockings. i wont judge the shoes until i see them close enough but i am NOT loving what i'm seeing so far. some of those silk skirts with the silk pants underneath look horrendous, as well. and in many cases, the gold braces seem to clash with the rest of the look.

i do however, like the shoulders (balmain, anyone?) and the lace tube top (though i can't seem to really associate it with balenciaga, to be honest, but maybe that's a good thing. innovative for him, anyway). The skirts without the pants look nice also.

all in all, i think i was expecting so much from this that i was bound to be dissapointed :(

This is a pretty boring collection overall....
I don't see anything in the slightest bit interesting.

i didn't really like it. the dresses were kind of the stuff you'd find from old grandmothers. it was okay but once again with the bleahced eyebrows. disappointed as well.

love the shoes with ribbons particuarly..they're not practical at all but damn, how lovely!

I expected something futuristic and avant garde but I suppose that wouldn't have sold well especially in tough times. I mean how well does Balenciaga do money wise? This collection though is beautiful. Shows great craftsmanship. And very recession chic! We need to see investment clothing to carry with you. This are also wearable, unlike his other collections.

It's a dud,

That's my best guess on how to interpret this. None of these clothes are particularly desirable or interesting. Interesting, the original Balenciaga wasn't all that good with flou and this incarnation isn't either.

I do like the drapey pants though.

....the capsule and edition collections is what actually sells and the bags...don't forget the bags (just take a look at balenciaga on thepursefourm)......

I was thinking this morning (at really boring class) how so many designers are re-doing so many things....and I know fashion has it's cicle and all that...but I said to myself that in the future if someone asked me which designers somehow defined this decade look I would said Nicolas Ghesquière, his vision of now, because I refuse to call it futuristic...among a few others...is what touches me....and came home to find...mmm...something I didn't expected at all....

I don't hate the collection, and I aplaud him for doing something wearable for the main audience..he has been there before...every now and then....and some decent shoulders; but the prints look so headache inducing as the mayority this season; the satin looks are too soft and pretty-pretty for me, and the color palette....is so spring...I had my hopes high after his pre-fall collection...now I just can't wait for resort-_-

the accesories I like...I wanna see close-up

I don't think this collection is bad at all. Fashion is a business afterall, and if you have to up the sales to keep going, then what's wrong with doing something a little more wearable? Many of the pieces are beautiful, with cool patterns and interesting construction.

I don't know how to feel about this collection. The drapey skirts and pants are quite pretty. It's wearable for sure, but that Balenciaga edge is gone.

how could you not like this collection????? it is totally balenciaga!!!:woot::woot: i can see all those skinny editors wearing this and the prints! i also am loving the fur dresses:woot::woot::woot::woot::woot: like on kinga. that is amaze!!! its like a fur coat but in a dress. incredible. i am not liking the space. does not feel modern to me. but the hair and makeup and the girls gave a good balance. and 2 new faces!!!!!!!!!!!:p balecnicga always has perfecton. Balenciga to be compared to balmain or anyting else is a travesty!!!!:yuk::yuk::yuk::yuk: balenciaga is so much more precise and better executed. look at the cut on those dresses! amazing to me. it is consistantly a flawless show and no one gives the right credit. they are professionals.:heart:i think we all ose perspective. this is an ace show.

Ok, so I've decided that I love this collection. Everything about it. It's so soft and delicate - something which you rarely see with Ghesquiere's cutting-edge modernism.

I love how he interpreted what he saw on his trip to India into this; and the shoes were awesome.

And 'the whispers' of Serge Gainsbourg on the soundtrack? Perfect.

I really love the softness of the draped skirts. I'm not wild about all the prints, but I have a feeling they're going to look amazing in editorials.
