Balenciaga F/W 10.11 by Steven Meisel

The portraits are incredible in every which way, but the full-lengths (Other than the two shots that involve Caroline Brasch-Nielsen) are lacking character to me - it's as if no one knew how exactly to pose in most of the photos.

^I agree the portraits are gorgeous, and I blame the clothing for the poses cause it doesn't looks like the most confortable collection  I'll wait for HQs of the groups shots.

I really love the background and the set, the red shades are amazing

^Yes you're right! It's definitely not the most versatile collection in terms of flexibility/movement

the clothes look really really good...it probably requires the models to be as lifeless as possible. the portraits are great also, surprisingly eliza has the best shot. she looks so pre-Raphaelite.

i'm rather disappointed. although the girls look great, the portraits don't do anything for me. there is something off, the cropping of the shot, proportions, i can't put my finger on it. the background ruins it for me.. i wished it would have been white or black perhaps with the glowing floors like they had on the runway. another bad campaign for a great collection :(

I totally love this. All the girls look beautiful, especially in the portraits. I also think it perfectly showcases the collection. It shows al the different textures, layers and silhouettes in perfection.

I love it much more now seeing the whole campaign. Though, I wish it wasn't so red. The collection had such beautiful pastel colours, would love to see it stand out more. Also, I wish they didn't just stand there since the collection had such amazing silhouettes. Not bad, but still underwhelming.

Kirsi and Eliza's pictures (including the companion shots) are hands down the best in terms of drawing power and selling the clothes and brand image.

I think that the picture of Karen is one of the best pictures that I have ever seen of her and it would be even better if that back fur was 'shopped out, but it (including the companion photo) does not make me want to buy Balenciaga. I feel similarly about Freja's picture, although the companion picture does a better job at selling the clothes.

If I include the companion shots, then Meghan and Stella's shots are kinda lacking, especially for an ad campaign, however the solo shots are compelling and on their own may work from a brand image standpoint, but the clothes selected are better suited for a runway or an editorial.

Meisel and / or the folks at Balenciaga seem to like the gawky/ awkward aesthetic. Even though many of the models featured are rather green, I think that a lot of the schlumpiness we are seeing may have been art directed.

Freja and Karen's are the strongest, out of the portrait shots. The background reminds me of Total Recall.

So far one of the best adds. I love everything about it.

this is super boring to me; & karen elson's hair practically blends with the background. i loved the collection & wish something more innovative could've been done. it's sort got this volcanic earth, pre-historic feel when it should be fashion forward & futuristic.

What is more fashion forward and futuristic than some glamorous young bunch of girls totally decked out in the finest Balenciaga pieces travelling through time to some pre-historic primordial volcanic setting to have their picture taken by Meisel?

i just loved this cpgn!!! top of my list!!

Eliza's shot = what a joke  I still don't get why she was casted for the campaign.
I must say that Caroline Brasch Nielsen and Valerija Kelava's shots were the ones who really caught the esence of these ads.
The portraits, though some of them are quite nice (Very surprised of Freja's shot), seem so pointless to me.

Overall this is a good campaign (if not mediocre) but these ads, coming from a collection that was full of references/ideas, could have been better...

totally agree.

The portraits are absolutely beautiful. The clothes are also showcased very well and I love the overall balance in these ads. Is this the entire set?

I only like Karen's pic. Those full-length shots are so random.

I've been watching Karen's pic over and over again but I don't feel it's a good picture of hers.. It looks bland to me  (I'm a huge Karen fan though ) Well, each person has a different taste.
I think Stella is the best among them and I prefer last season's ads.
