Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2014

this is one of the smoothest transitions to a new designer i have ever seen...

I agree with softgrey. Wang is really getting into the codes of the house and, at the same time, bringing out his own vision of how Balenciaga's heritage can be relevant today. What I really love about his collections is how modern, sleek and thought-out they look. No new designer nonsense, no useless experimenting. Just quality clothes that do the house justice.

Well said TheItGirl. The thing about Wang's Balenciaga is that I would totally wear the majority of the clothes he has put out thus far. Sleek, chic and wearable.

Probably the best pre-fall collection and venue this season.

Utterly stunning. The styling is impeccable, as is the presentation.

I love all the trousers in this collection, there's definitely some menswear inspiration there. I do like how he is incorporating a modern edge into the house's codes. Look number 14 and 19 are my absolute favorites!

Its ok, nothing great. Though look 3 is nice.

Fantastic I feel like he's getting better to make the house looks fresh.

The sweater's sleeves on Look 3 made me gasp. That looks lux as hell and should have been something down the main runway. The rest all exudes comfort, chic and easiness, which is something expected from him.

I really admire a designer that can get that great balance between strong design and wearability that results in a distinct, and flattering silhouette.

I thought he had proven that he was leagues ahead of the so-called New York New Guard-- which for me, really is just Alexander Wang. NOw, with this collection, he's given me the impression he's leagues ahead of even some of the overhyped international veterans. This is a solid collection, with each outfit standing strongly on it's own, and as a collective, so directional. He's really growing, and evolving as a designer. He's already won me over with his charm, then his branding. Now he's winning me over with his designs.

I'll be the odd man out, I don't like most of this. So much of it looks stiff and generally impractical. It looks good with the models standing as lifeless as possible but I don't see much of this looking graceful with natural body movement. The sweatshirt with the woven sleeves in look #3 for example looks pretty cool, but I think best works in editorial or on the backs of a fashion week style "icon." The coat in look #4 is another ultra rigid piece. The pants (and much of these images) were airbrushed into perfection so I can't properly say how well they look. The shoes are heinous.
There were some redeeming looks, namely #14 and #19. Accessories were another highlight of the collection. But not enough to save it from it's overall severity.

Bleh. This looks just like how every other "cool" and "edgy" established brand wants to look now. Oh well, it's pre-fall and meant for the shop floor anyway.

You're not alone.

While I don't hate the collection...actually it would be kinda cool to me, with the mixing of great tailoring and with modern performance materials, if it weren't Balenciaga. I am true disciple of Cristobal Balenciaga and while the prior collections were more adherent to the essence of M. Balenciaga this one goes it it's own direction while holding on to a few of his ethos, #14 and #19 I believe are testaments to that with the sweater in #3 and the trousers as examples, too.

I totally agree that seeing them in motion may be completely different, i so desperately wanted to see how these looks moved. The shoes i could live without, for sure
