Balmain F/W 11.12 Paris

i'm just happy that balmain retreated from that severe hardcore biker chic look from spring/summer. while this contained some less-than-creative elements that recalled isabel marant (something that usually happens the other way around), this stuff, for the most part, remained par for the course at balmain and considering the backstage intrigue surrounding the house of late, a pretty stand up effort. and i don't understand how the critics can continue to spout that this stuff remains exactly the same when not one biker jacket and/or reference appeared on runway, not one instance of the baroque or that ubiquitous purple appeared on runway, not even a nod toward the military references of just eighteen months ago appeared on runway. this stuff presented something fresh for the house and in a way that's still more ineffably cool than most shows we've seen all week....even without the designer present.

ITA.

Well said. :)

Good collection, IMO and really not deserving of all the vitriol.

Even if Melanie Ward took the place of Alt I still can hardly find a difference. Mostly repetitive with a few changes. *yawn*

embellishments were beautiful. i love this brand soo much.

Nothing too impressive, overall impression is just WEH.
However, once you take a deeper look at it, the details, especially the jackets really grow on you. Who are we kidding, Balmain always have uber-fantastic jackets.
Wasn't sure about the shoes at first either but now they look kind of nice... and wearable, you know?

But overall I agree with most of people here: this has to stop.

Balmain just bores me rigid right now. I suppose at least the Ziggy Stardust outfits brought a little light relief to the proceedings. Kept me awake anyway.

Thank god he tried to present something different this time. I hope we're over w/ hooker-biker chic thing, for good!
I'll give him credit for trying something a bit different, and for the great embellishment. But I'm really starting to think this guy has a very limited inspiration. Even though its diffferent, there's no inventivity in that collection. Just plain and random pieces cut-out, glittered etc. Its good to do what you feel good with, but those pieces feel pretty amateurish to me. And you can put all the swarowsky crystals you wan... now we can clearly see that every kindergarden pupil could do basically the same if you give him some fabrics, some scissors, some glue and little bit of glitter.

I like it waay better than last season for sure, and although it's not amazing, I still like it. I especially love the Bowie-esque deep V necked unitards and the over slouch look that I've come to love about Balmain.

like the saying goes, if it s not broken don t fix.

it s the same thing as the previous season but i guess it works and it sells.

Have you actually ever made fun of a woman in white boots?:ninja:

From the stye.com accessory report.

But they cost 7000-something anyway.

^fashion has caught white boot fever with everyone from oscar de la renta to alexander mcqueen to isabel marant showing boots in stark white. by comparison, these remain quite tame.

But those look exactly like the ones the prostitutes in my city are wearing. The McQueen ones look quite cool and not as tacky as these.

And Isabel Marant. Haha. Don't get me started...

^the balmain boots don't hold a candle to those isabel marant boots. it would take one brave woman -- or perhaps, a woman of the night -- to pull off those.

^^ i find the Isabel Marant infinitely more appealing than the horrid Balmain.
As much as I've always liked Balmain, and Marant not so much, this seasons I think it's the opposite! Her propositions in general were much more appealing than those of Decarnin/team/whoeverdidit

^well, we know that isabel marant actually designed her fall/winter collection. it's an open question for the fall/winter balmain collection although many signatures did appear. i think i'll have to see the boots on a fantastically fabulous woman before i can digest the look B)
