Obviously the fashion back in 1980 was not very nice and all that frizzy perm, ugly clothes and that turned up collar on SJP shirt are not making anyone pretty, not to mention those enourmous glasses.
It really easy to see these dorky looking 80's children color and straignten their hair, put on proper make up and dress up in prettier clothes.... I don't think it's called plastic surgery.

A lot of it IS airbrushing and plastic surgery, but nothing major... maybe just a small tweak here and there, something as minor as an eyelift can drastically change how someone looks but without it being too noticeable about what changed.

Obviously the clothes didn't help, but it was the 80's, it was hot back then (hopefully never again)

"before they were stars" they looked more average, more like everyday people walking around the streets... but after becoming famous they have personal stylists, fitness trainers, hair stylists, makeup artists, someone to give them a massage on will, etc etc...
