Boston shopping

WHAAAAAAAT?!?!?

Finally!

Gawd, getting Zara on Newbury makes my life so much easier; Natick was just too inconvenient for me. This is such good news, thanks, lucy! Sorry, I don't know when Mango is opening.

sissyneck, as far as thrift/vintage goes, The Garment District & History (both in Cambridge) often have decently edited selections. Also, I've taken a liking to the Goodwills in Central Square and Davis Square. I've been pleasantly surprised by how many cheap 80s/90s basics they have...like button-down floral dresses from the 90s, elastic waistband pants and shorts...it's not for everyone, but it certainly is for me!

apparently zara on newbury street is now open. has aone been?

I went a few days ago..I was impressed, seeing as it was my first time in a Zara store..Hardly anybody was there; I thought it would've been packed..2 floors of womenswear, top floor is menswear..I bought a cute white plaid shirt, first white ANYTHING Ive purchased in years..The menswear shoes had potential, esp the patent leather white ones, but the ridiculously pointed toes had me saying "No, no, no!!" Overall, not so bad..Not a look Id do head-to-toe everyday, but some cute workable seperates nontheless..

do you guys know how late the zara on newbury street is open?
i'm going to be around there on thursday night and want to pop in and return something...

I am so excited to hear about achilles project! sounds amazing!
Zara on newbury street became my second home.. the store has the traditional European zara store setting with more than one floor, it has 2 floors for women, zara woman under and the trf cheaper line on top, MUCH better than the natick mall Zara for sure!!

I am looking for mid priced long evening gowns for a wedding. Anybody has a favorite place/boutique to buy them apart from the neiman/saks traditional dept stores?

i went to the zara on newbury street for the first time last night.
there were a TON of flowered blouses and dresses. there also were not a ton of people there shopping. there hasnt been much press about the store opening...i would bet not many people know about the opening. most of the silk blouses that i liked were 79.99...

of course prices are double what zara cost in europe...:innocent:
i dont believe in paying full price for anything at zara unless its stupendous...

im going to go back there as soon as there's a sale sign in the window.

cristy: "long" evening gown...now thats tricky. the length part that is...

there are sample sales for wedding gowns this time of the year (the vera wang store on newbury has one twice a year). i would check around for them as they often sell long gowns appropriate for wedding guests at the same time...you might want to check the other bridal stores on newbury, they would have good advice for you.

Just returned from vacation in Boston to spend time with family and friends. Completely let down by shopping in Boston. I had expected to buy a plethora of items. Anything that tickled me to be honest. But I left with pieces from Urban Outfitters and a jacket from H&M because it was simply that cold. I will admit that the Zara store is nice visually. It's spacious and clean. But I was looking for something with a uniqueness within the garment to set it aside from other pieces. Thrift stores were not taking kindly to me on my visit. I used to be able to find a ton of steals at a bunch of places but this time around it seemed as though I had missed the calling. And I will say this though, LF's sale was crazy! Among the tacky, horrible pieces there were a number of really cute items marked down to a bargain price that I couldn't let my friends walk away from! Also, if I see another Johnny Cupcakes box on Newbury I will scream. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.

We seriously need a YSL in this town. Its like the only boutique in the Boston area that we are missing.:(

cristy i would also recommend bcbg for dresses for a wedding..
they usually have some nice long that you can wear more than once and that aren't too over the top..

pricing can be kind of all over the place but usually 200-300+ if i remember correctly...
the bcbg outlet in wrentham sometimes has some nice choices..

i went to the north shore mall over the weekend. the entire mall is ripped up. literally, the mall had no floor, only concrete. a lot of the larger stores (ie gap and express had moved into smaller stores temporarily) kind of disappointing.

Anyone going to Simon Doonan's book signing at Barneys on Wed?

I really want to go....even though I have not read the book.

^ i plan on going!!!! i haven't read the book... but im kind of curious. i hear there is a whole chapter about exorcising spirits from vintage clothing. sounds up my alley.

a YSL would be great here... but i dunno how well they would do in the land of the blueberry coolatta

So did anyone go to the book signing?? i couldnt make it :(
