Bottega Veneta F/W 09.10 Milan

such a beautiful collection. i love his colour palette & use of fabrics - especially the velvet. just very, very pretty.

hasn't anyone noticed the squashed-looking bustier on some of those dresses? i mean, what's up with them? they made the models' boobs look droopy

I always love the colors at Bottega Veneta shows and it is no exception this time! These clothes make every woman feels like a goddess i think :crush:

And every woman can wear them. You just put them on, there you go, you're dressed. This is the quiet genius of Bottega Veneta.

is this really that wonderful?

As i was scrolling i was thinking how awful and unflattering some of the dresses were on the models- it made their chests look disporportionate or just plain wierd.

I guess i'm in the minority in saying that i don't particularly care for this collection.

Some of the tops seemed like uncomfortable puritan wear.

exactly! the ruching and bustiers made the clothes looked ill-fitting, especially the chest area. i wonder why no one has voiced out on this

Gorgeous. I love the evening dresses the most, especially the one on Taryn. I also love the striped velvet looks.

I can handle the sameness of Bottega only if it looks this great.

agree! Tomas has a specific customer and he is constantly delivering. Much like Rick Owens, who also "does the same thing every season". As long as it doesn't become boring, I don't see how it is a problem.

I do dislike the 'boob dresses', though.

The shoes are absolute STUNNERS. BV's shoes are very underrated!!

That has nothing to do with the clothes being poorly made and everything to do with the size of the models chests. The models simply don't fill out the clothes properly since those pieces are designed to accentuate the bust area.

That's what I was wondering ... how these would look on a normal woman. What immediately occurs to me, though, is ... every woman is built differently, the ah ... spacing varies. So how this is going to work IRL is a bit of a mystery to me

The color scheme is lovely, and the suede/lizard I guess boots are stunning. It's really hard to appreciate most Bottega collections in photos I think. I was just in the store this week & was struck how much better everything looked in person (resort & spring).

Wrt the 'memorable' factor, I believe the idea is for the woman to be memorable ;) This may not make the collection very good spectator sport, but it's pretty appealing to the women who buy it. I find in your face design to be quite challenging to wear. Often Pilati's YSL and some Balenciaga even wear celebs, and they should in theory have the personality and charisma to overbalance it ...

Sarah Mower makes this point about subtlety:

The desirabilty is in Maier's fabrics, some of which are so refined even the camera can't pick up the nuances. The second look out—a cream coat over a strapless dress—passed within inches of the noses of the audience, but who knew the coat was covered with a fine layer of organza, or realized the dress was not a matte cotton canvas but leather? Only the woman who wore it, or someone close enough to stroke her. Which is Bottega Veneta's not-for-public-consumption code in a nutshell.

yea i was kinda wondering about that as well. if the models can't fill out the bust area properly, then what about clients when the fall collection hits the store? i'm not clear on this, but don't the models usually have a couple of fittings in the clothes before the actual runway presentation?

but yea, the details look wonderful! i especially adored the lilac coat with the woolly texture

They do, but if the dress was designed to have that cup at the bottom or the gathering to fit around the bust, and the model doesn't fill it out, there's only so much that can be done in a fitting without having to remake the entire dress.

I'm more concerned about the fact that some of the models (like Kim Noorda) look really busty ...

Tomas also designs swimwear, so you'd think he'd know what he's doing. I know he likes the idea of built-in undergarments, but I'm just not sure how this is gonna fly ...

All the pieces are so sophisticated, I love it. Especially the dress on Natasha, it makes her look like a queen. The make up compliments the collection well too
