Bravo! I haven’t been impressed with a debut collection in a long time. There are some new ideas, lovely colours (in the right shades of red, green, etc), great styling, excellent casts.
It is surely more accessible than Blazy’s, less “artsy”, very wearable.

A rather ambitious debut.
She obviously tried to follow the footsteps of Blazy.
I liked some pieces, particularly the compact knits tshirts worn with the carwash skirts. The grey glossy bags were great too.

I think she fell into that trope of putting too much and proving too much. At some point, our eyes wants to rest and it was like a fight of statement pieces trying to exist in one collection.

It was just too much oversized! Too much statement pieces. Bottega Veneta could and should be the statement piece place but the proportions could have been more approachable.

In a way, the collection will reassure the Bottega Veneta clientele.

I wonder if she designed a resort because at this point, with so heavy coats, and even if clothes are transeasonal now, the collection has to arrive in stores from December to justify this lol!

Even the most faithful client is exhausted when the brand change it aesthetic everytime.
This is the 4th CD in less than a decade.
And it seems like brands are going for the evolution thing.

Blazy himself was an accident. So they probably searched for safe options.

On paper, it’s a strong debut with clear polish, but what it lacks is a distinct point of view from her.

What exactly makes this Trotter for Bottega? The clothes are refined, yes, but we’ve seen much of this vocabulary before. It might be executed better here thanks to the atelier she has access to, but the end result feels generic rather than transformative.

The shiny fringes, while beautiful, don’t evoke much beyond a “cool” factor. Where’s the pop culture, the art references, the humor…anything that injects personality and makes the collection feel alive and human?

The fact that BV has continued to grow without showing a collection since last year shows that the appeal for the shift in aesthetic Blazy has operated is still there.

This collection in reality is safe. Nobody is lost and she proves that she is fully competent as her menswear was as strong as the womenswear but indeed, she needs to infuse more of herself in the future.

If there’s one brand that wasn’t in need of a dramatic change, it’s Bottega Veneta.

I forgot to mention the ugly clogs. I’m praying to never see them in the streets.

It's an ok debut, it's nothing extremely bad nor exciting, but Trotter needs to infuse some lightness and humour into her collections, because this one feels very heavy. And definitely too oversized, especially now, when a slimmer silhouette is getting more popular again. Still, it's a good starting point.

With Blazy at Chanel, I’ve found the kind of presence Armani once held for me at fashion week. I suppose that makes me his defender from here on LOL. So I’ll keep all the shades about him pinned, watcha back when the debut comes 🫵.

About this new Bottega designer, I had zero expectations so I didn’t disappoint or anything. As I said in the Khaite thread, she should take notes from Cate.
