Burlesque

I think this is a great trend. I really like it and would like to attend a burlesque night myself. I love all the drama and glamour of it.

i think it's a great trend when people know how to rock it. let's be honest, some people end up looking like hatchetface from Cry Baby.

softgrey, you're right that burlesque seems to be having its moment, but there was a presumptive thread :p

Precisely! Actually, I think it's quite easy to go wrong with this look... if you can't carry it off.

It can look either ridiculously amazing...
or just plain ridiculous, imo..
I think Dita, as frigid and manicured as she seems, looks fantastic...
She rly pulls it off well...
I also rly enjoy Burlesque-themed edits and such...
Very engaging...

haha...funny that there was already a thread...

i know that in NYC there has always been a sort of 'underground' burlesque scene...
so it's not really 'new' in that way...
though i have been to fashion-related events now and then when performers have been hired to 'liven up' a party...:p
this is the first time in a very long time that i have seen it go so mainstream...
'the Box' has become such a hit with so many high profile people who wouldn't have been caught dead at a public burlesque show in the past...
* though it is so hard to get into the box that it's not really 'public' either...
:innocent:

*i don't actually recommend this as something that anyone should try to do or wear...
i see it more as a form of entertainment...best left to the professionals...
just go see a show or something...

;)

I guess with some of the old-style glamour (I don't use "glam" much), it's probably a bit too daring to try out. People would complain about this style much like when parents in the 1990s frowned on their teen daughters showing off their midriffs and navel from clothing. I'm not really big on styles before the '70s, but this will probably mean a real trend towards old-style beauty. Burlesque is a real fashion extreme and something quite daring to pull off for everyday wear. But for the brave and for the ones who can come up with such exceptional looks in the Burlesque style, more power to you! Or... is burlesque really as much of a fashion extreme as I make it out to be?

Burlesque is something that is veyr much mainstream now .. with uk birlesque minitry making some people like kitty klaw household names... most dance studios etc. now offer burlesque classes

I think this is what made the style popular again .. that with the whole pin up girl and rockabilly girl trend :flower: think they are sorta linked.. i may be wron though

I like this old time glamour .. ladies seemed so much more feminine then :)

I notice alot of the old school goths now sport this look
