Caffeine - Friend or Foe?

I stopped drinking coffee cause it was giving me dysentery, i dont understand how americans drink that much coffee :yuk:

Both. For school it is not just a friend, it is indispensable. I don't really ever have exams, just a constantly heavy workload of lots of projects. So I rely on coffee to keep me going and not fall asleep at reasonable hours when I still have so much work to do. Which leaves me sleep-deprived and needing more caffeine the next day but it is necessary. My doctor told me to cut back but I don't think that I can stop drinking it and still get all my work done. Definitely friend for school work.

But definitely a foe for my health. So bad for your skin and your body! But I guess there are worse things I could be using. That is what I keep telling myself.

To the friend or foe question, I would agree and say BOTH. It just depends on what time of day, the mood, the amount, etc. etc...

I'm saying foe now... I have really stopped enjoying drinking coffee - it's just become like a medicine and I'm not into things dictating me.. so I'm weaning myself off it and onto like, fruit juice, water or just nothing.

I have forbidden coffee but i do take now and then...ok more often than desirable coca-cola
And i use to be a British tea (black tea with a bit of milk) addict! But i had to redice to one cup to none now :(
Well im sure back at the UK I would need the tea times...

If I want to come off it I have to do it gradually, and just reduce the amount each day little by little or I get some killer migraines and headaches...plus I just feel like crap for several days afterward in general. Sluggish.

It's much easier just to have more caffeine...

FRIEND
I have one cup everyday in the morning. I have morning classes so I need coffee. Sometimes I do find myself getting a bit shaky as a result, so I don't drink a lot of it - one medium cup with two sugars and cream is enough.

If I don't have it then I feel really tired and I get a headache.. I'm definitely dependent on it.

love coffee, though i have cut down alot...i used to drink 5-6 cups or more per day...now i barely make it to 3 lol

I am a huge caffeine junkie as well! It's not uncommon for me to drink 6+ cups of coffee each day.

What happens when you stop?

I began drinking coffee every day a few weeks ago. Stopped doing that a few days ago and I was SUPER tired... very tough to get back to normal... I've read it only takes 7 days, so I have my fingers crossed.

I tend to self-medicate with coffee.

Hey... that makes two of us.

Me on caffeine::buzz:

My mind becomes an avant-garde video by a techno-freak film student with ADHD on stimulants. Plus my hands start shaking. In my worst experience, I couldn't even walk straight. It's torture.

I love love love tea and really enjoy coffee, but I simply cannot function after half a cup of coffee, so I avoid it like the plague unless I'm really really sleepy or it's really really early, in which case it doesn't affect me as much...strange. Decaf is my style.

I do take a very small cup of very good quality straight green tea or some Earl Gray every morning after yoga.

Coffee dramatically changes my personality..I go from calm, relaxed to jumping around manic. So I try only limit it for situations where I need added confidence, or when i'm genuinely exhausted.

I prefer to drink decaf, just because it's healthier and caffeine changes the coffee in a way I don't prefer, but I don't mind if I drink it occasionally.

Caffiene is my friend. In fact to correct an old bit of gossip about me, I'm really only in the industry to get at many different kinds of (not decaf) coffee.

(And yesterday I did post that I blew of H. Rhoda to go eat a slice of NY pizza.)

I'm actually surprised by how many people here aren't friends with caffeine; that's amazing. I, on the other hand, are pretty intimate with mr. caffeine.

You made me almost choke on my coffee when I read that! So funny!! :D

I'm a full scale Grade A coffee addict. I only drink properly brewed good quality coffee and ONLY take it black.

I HATE putting milk in hot drinks. I love milk in cereal but for some reason I hate in it hot drinks so if I were to drink tea I would drink it black, BUT that makes my stomach go crazy and makes me very nauseous. I'd say the last time I drank tea was about 8 years ago!

The only bad thing about black coffee? Stains your teeth. :(
