Calvin Klein Collection S/S 2011: Lara Stone by Mert & Marcus

It's one of the few CK campaigns I've seen that just captures to perfection the aesthetic most people associate with the brand (people that don't even care for fashion included).. there's the freshness of their well-known scents coming out of these two pages, the modern beauty of the model, that New York sophistication and super clean lines.. Costa seems to have finally married the energy he started to inject into the brand only 2-3 years ago with the legacy of Klein and make it all very now and timelessly CK at the same time.

Lara is a great and memorable model indeed but I'm always amazed at how excessive people can get whenever it comes to her. I'm sorry but is her holding her boobs and wearing a mask / standing in front of a black backdrop really worth going "brilliant, iconic..." (running out of overstatements)? It's kind of a rhetorical question though, I assume it must be worth it given the recurrence of such... enthusiastic responses.

Otherwise I can understand why they'd want to stick with the same formula as last season, it's showstopping, compliments and showcases well the clothes, but it didn't make me let out a gasp of awe or whatever. It just fulfills its duty as an ad, that's about it.
I agree. I have come to the realization in the past few months that Lara may actually be a good model, and on a side note I find her quite charming in on-the-street candids especially if she is with her husband, but the images of hers that tend to get a lot of gushiness and rhapsodized over because of her awesomeness are the ones where the model makes the least contribution, other than being the spawn of her parents and having good control over her body. It is the stylist, photographer, glam squad and / or set designer who did the heavy lifting for many of the :woot: Lara! images. Still, I can't hate on her for showing up to a set and getting paid lots of money and / or getting lots of exposure for being Mr. and Mrs. Stone's daughter, well actually I can and have, but whatever. :p Anyhoo, to her credit, Lara has done print work where she has made more of a contribution as a model, but for whatever reasons those images tend not to get celebrated as much as her coathanger work.

Sick. Whenever Lara (and M&M for that matter) loses all the overexagerrated sex, nudity and layers of lighting the result is always beautiful.

Looks like a continuation from the fall/winter ad. I personally love it. I love that it's so simple yet so strong effectively.
