Here are the nominees.....

Originally supposed to take place in June, the organization is eschewing a live ceremony this year, and will instead release the names of the winners on its website and social channels on September 14, to kick off New York Fashion Week. There are a few changes to the categories, as well: There are no honorees (so, no Fashion Icon, Positive Change, Founder's, Media, Lifetime Achievement or International awards), and there are two new categories to celebrate womenswear and menswear brands based outside of the U.S. (Global Women's Designer of the Year and Global Men's Designer of the Year).

American Womenswear Designer of the Year:
Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row
Brandon Maxwell
Gabriela Hearst
Marc Jacobs
Tom Ford.

American Menswear Designer of the Year:
Emily Adams Bode for Bode
Kerby Jean-Raymond for Pyer Moss
Thom Browne
Todd Snyder
Tom Ford

American Accessories Designer of the Year:
Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row
Gabriela Hearst
Jennifer Fisher for Jennifer Fisher Jewelry
Stuart Vevers for Coach
Telfar Clemens for Telfar

American Emerging Designer of the Year:
Christopher John Rogers
Kenneth Nicholson
Peter Do
Reese Cooper
Sarah Staudinger and George Augusto for Staud

Global Women's Designer of the Year:
Daniel Lee for Bottega Veneta
Dries Van Noten
Miuccia Prada for Prada
Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino
Rick Owens

Global Men's Designer of the Year:
Craig Green
Dries Van Noten
Jonathan Anderson for Loewe
Kim Jones for Dior
Virgil Abloh for Louis Vuitton

Tom Ford -the chairman of the CFDA- nominated for two prizes.
It’s a joke.

It's so incestuous! I don't care if Diane and others also got nominated in the past, this should not be allowed.

The CFDA is not unlike the Oscars in that they's so obviously out of touch. How much longer will they nominate The Row and Marc Jacobs? Yes, they deliver solid work, but are they the only brands in America? And why am I seeing Miuccia's name there (I'd replace her with Natacha)? And Dries in both men's and women's - come for me Phuel, Mulletproof, Fashionista-ta, Eugenius, Nymphaea and 80% of tFS, lol! It's overmuch.

What a wankfest!

At least they gave Barbie a tribute award last year.

Had to google who Jennifer Fisher was. She sure likes to create a lot of brass hoops!

Bode should get the menswear win.

I can’t remember any of these past collections.

Like if the American fashion industry needed another drama...

I think Tom shouldn’t be nominated. I understand that he is still part of the fashion game (unlike Diane), that his brand is doing good and of course the retailers and journalists can be tempted to nominate him.
But too much conflict of interest in that case.

I’m sorry but for me Marc, Rick and Thom should be nominated every year. Those names are still the ones who keeps American fashion relevant in a creative sense. That being I would respect if they decides to not be included.

I’m tired of seeing The Row and Brandon Maxwell nominated every year.
If Maxwell is nominated, Jacquemus should be nominated for global brand.

Marc, for womenswear
Kerby, for menswear
Telfar, for accessories
Peter Do, for emerging talent
Daniel Lee, for womenswear
Kim Jones, for menswear.

I think the CFDA should post a video explaining the process of the votes and everything. I read people wanting African designers based in Africa to be nominated or their favorite Black owned brand to be nominated. Designers, journalists and retailers are included in the process of voting.
If the designers does not have a buzz and aren’t sold anywhere, it’s ridiculous. That being said, if things go well, Kenneth Ize has the potential to be nominated next year.

I think that a lot of those nominations are not well chosen.

It would be criminal if Telfar didn’t get Accessories solely based on his IT-bag. I don’t think a bag has gotten this much press in years, and it is so much more than just an accessory.

I can’t speak for everybody here, but for me, I can’t imagine I’ll know who this new crop of American designers that are nominated will be in a few quick seasons. I barely know (or care) who they are now.

So if the point of the CFDA awards is to promote, recognize, and celebrate American fashion and the designers contained therein, just give all the awards to Dries and just be done with it.
