I think you are right. When you look at the price of the chloe bags, Chanel was becoming a bargain.

I KNOW! I think the same way, i go in and be like "wow, this is cheap!":woot:

Very true! When you put some Chanel bags in perspective with other $1000+ bags, the price looks really good... it is a bit weird when you consider a $900 bag "cheap," but comparatively speaking... yeah, it is. :o

i know... its so sad....
before, i used to look at MJ classics and be like... "a plain hobo for 900? no fking way!"
and now im like "oh its not so bad.. its only $895...? :D "

of course the best thing would be all the other houses decreasing their prices to the 600-900 range and chanel staying at the 900-1300 range...

i think all that "unique design, perfect craftmenship, excellant leather" crap are kinda justified as long as the price doesnt go over $1000..... chanel and hermes are two brands that can go over $1000....
anything over that, its just insane... (and its kinda sad and pathetic that i still buy those overpriced bags)

Thanks lily - But saddly the pink does not go well with my wordrobe otherwise what leshent's asked for BIN price is so good.

Well, I do wish that the other houses will decrease their prices too.
No matter how, any kind of price increase is bad for us consumers, no matter how it is justified

I'll rather pay less for any bag, just so that there's more money left to buy other bags...

so lets get this straight.

if its textured caviar leather, its calfskin

and if its smooth, its deerskin and therefore a bit more expensive than calf?

and us=deerskin, aus=calfskin. am i right?

(i think the ones in korea are deerskin)

Not exactly. The caviar leather is textured, but it has a different texture than the deerskin. The deerskin is also textured, but is smooth to the touch- the texture looks almost like the clemence leather on a hermes bag.

so today I saw another bag alongside the cerf that appears to be made of caviar calfskin, not deerskin, and has a rectangular non-CC gunmetal closure and no shoulder strap. it comes in the same size as the cerf and a smaller size which is more squat.

I saw the new cerf with the rectangular non-CC gunmetal closure. It was virtually identical to the cerf with the gold CCs. The one I saw was the same size, had the same pockets, the same removable cosmetic bag and the same handles (I didn't pay attention to the shoulder strap, so I couldn't tell you whether it has one or not). I liked the cerf with the gold CC closure better- although the new gunmetal closure is nice too.

Cool ! Cant wait to see it too although I prefer the gold cc ones which are quite hard to find. been tracking some ebay auctions of the cerf and the last one went for $1200. all of the ebay ones seems to have attracted gd bids. still dont know the diff between how the calf and deerskin compares to each other tho

The chanel boutique in Tysons Corner VA has at least 5 cerf's with the gold CC at the old $1650 price.

thanks for the info...
what colors did they have?

The more I read this thread makes me want to get this bag. At first though, I thought this bag was too plainjane for me but now I like:woot:

I want to ask the ladies here who already have this bag.. would you ever use the cerf as a diaper bag? It looks perfect for it's size but I don't know how durable it is...

I certainly would - it's looks hardy and practical enough and the leather is quite durable.

yeah i agree, even though i just got mine. i think its really durable. i would never use a bag that costs this much as a diaper bag. i treat mine like royalty hehe

I am thinking it might be a bit stuffed when used as a diaper bag.
But oh, I couldn't bear to use it as a diaper bag too :flower:

I can't see using it as a diaper bag. aside from possibly ruining an expensive purse (are you really prepared to have milk leak in it, stuff soiled clothing and drooly toys in it, and have cheerios on the bottom?), a diaper bag should be a separate unisex (in case Dad takes out bebe) utilitarian hands free bag that can be placed on the ground, spit up on and stuffed in a stroller basket without any worries about ruining it. you can certainly throw a few baby things in the cerf if you don't feel like carrying a diaper bag, but I don't see it as a real substitute. I've heard about women buying the cambon multipocket to use as a diaper bag and I think they're insane.

I couldn't agree more. The cerf is certainly big enough to use as a diaper bag, but do you really want to ruin it????

I bought the black cerf today - I'm convinced the one on ebay is fake because of the color of the lining and the trademark did look funny. Thanks to everyone who commented on the ebay listing.:p The reason I bought it today is because the price on this bag (and many others) is scheduled to increase to $1850 in the "fall" whenever that is. The SA showed me the "book" and the cerf listed for 1850. Chanel is on a price increase bing. I bought a multipocket bag around christmas for about $2700 - now its $3190! This can't all be because of the devaluation of the dollar against the euro!

Just reread some of the posts...From cougess' info, it means the Cerf will still be available next season. Was told that the current season's batch of Cerfs were only around for one season. Is this another misalignment of the international Chanel SA's i.e. different stores, different SAs, different stories?!?!

I was under the impression that the cerf with the gold ccs are seasonal. The fall collection will have ruthenium clasps but the specs of the bag should still be the same although I heard it was slightly smaller too.
