i don't know if you guys have seen the new larger cerf in person (same size as the older version but different clasp and interior) but it is sooooo gorgeous. i gave in and bought it this morning. i was going to get the one with the gold CCs but this one is so much more modern and a bit younger looking. i love it love it love it!!

Hey Klow- Don't have my digital camera here with me right now but will try to post over the weekend. Personally I think the new one is SO much better than the old one. Depends on your style but I tend to like silver/platinum over gold and I don't mind that the new one doesn't have the Cs (I think it makes it look classier). Also, the inner lining of the newer version has Chanel printed on it and the handles have additional stitching that make it look more finished. The only bad thing is that it's 200 bucks more.

btw, the latest explanation I've received as to what the cerf is made of is caviar leather stamped to look like deerskin. but it's not actually deerskin as many of us were led to believe. and now that I have a deerskin bag, I'm beginning to think the cerf is just a variation of caviar calfskin. the cerf leather isn't nearly as soft. the controversy continues . . .

that's really interesting.. i've been confused too because i've heard that it's deerskin (cerf, afterall), but it just doesn't feel like it... and the SA said that it was caviar leather too.. although i know you can't always trust them to know their stuff

Thanks for that I'll wait to see the pic on the weekend. I actually do like the silver/platinum more than the gold but also like the cc logo too. The new lining is sound good to me. Oh my can't wait to see the pic thanks again.

klow-chloe there is a pic of the new cerf in post #230. i saw the new cerf in black, white and camel. i think it looks best in white on ruthenium. i personally prefer black with gold clasps.

Thanks ginger - But that one is the smaller version I think julie 's got the bigger size which suppose to be the same size with the original cerf.

After using my new cerf for almost 2 weeks, I have to say that I'm loving it every second. The leather's not as soft as lambskin but it's still going softer, and still holds its shape.

And yes, I don't mind not having the gold Cs. I'm not a fan of gold so the rhodium works really well for me. Plus, the Chanel is so subtly engraved on the rhodium hardware that my husband still doesn't know I'm carrying a Chanel.

I also like the removable pouch inside the cerf.

I bought the shorter one because I'm not tall, and the old cerf would have made me look shorter. The shorter one makes me look elegant! I can carry it on my shoulder as well as on my arm.

I never thought I would love such a boring looking bag but I do! And I like how much the bag can hold.

I totally know what you mean! I love love love it. I've only had it for 12 hours so far but it is so gorgeous. What color did you get? Post some pictures! I'm going to post some as soon as I get my digital camera back (my sister borrowed it). And I agree with you, the rhodium is MUCH better, in my opinion.

Another improvement over the older version: The inside is no longer canvas- it's this lining that feels and looks sort of like the lining inside some prada bags so it's a lot easier to clean.

I was hesitant to get one myself till now cause I thought it was a bit boring looking bag too. But on the other hand that probably it's the beauty of this bag being a simple and it won't go outdated.

Have you seen it in person yet? I thought it was nice but just okay before I went and saw it and FELT it and tried it on, and then i was sold in 5 minutes. It's something that you'll have and use for a long time, which is why I chose it over the paddington (which I also love too but not as much as the cerf, after seeing both in person). I would go and look at both the old and new version, if possible. I'm 26 and I thought the gold CC one looked a bit old on me, whereas the new cerf is soooo chic.

Also, the SA at the chanel boutique here in SF said that this new version is probably going to be for this season only, whereas the older version will still be available...not sure how accurate this is because I thought it was the other way around, but you might want to keep this in mind!

As I was always under impression that it made of deerskin so when the SA told me that it was calfskin I thought that may be I could find the deerskin one from overseas. The new style probably won't be here for another few months or may not even be here at all. If I really want one I probably have to order from overseas.

But it come down to the look of the bag I do have many squarish looked totes but they're not chanel. I realise that this style will last longer than other styles. And I do need a new black bag so this will be it.

I was really disappointed in the paddington when I saw it, namely because the zipper and the lock/other parts are different colors- I felt it cheapened the bag a bit. I still think it's cute but not sure if it's worth the 1380...

I think there was some talk before about whether the new cerf totes are made of deerskin or not. Just talked to my SA in SF where I recently bought the new version of the tote and she said she is absolutely sure it is made of deerskin.

and as I said previously, I now believe that the name notwithstanding, the cerf is not made of deerskin. I have a BV deerskin bag (and have handled a few others) that feels nothing like the cerf. and despite Isabelle's certainty, if you look at the discussion on this thread, it seems like most SAs (including Jennifer, who works in the same boutique as Isabelle!) are equally certain that it's not deerskin. ultimately though, who cares so long as you like it. but it does seem silly that chanel doesn't have one official answer.
