Chanel Cerf Tote

.chanel isn't very creative about its names -- mine is called "small tote bag" but looks nothing like the cerf (and obviously the style number is completely different). even though calling it the "cerf" has stirred some controversy, at least it's unique.
so today I was flipping through neiman's chanel book and I found a picture of the new squat cerf tote -- under the "deerskin" tab. and the description said plainly, "material: deerskin." hmm. also, the name of this bag was "chic city" or something like that. probably a name only neiman's is using and further contributing to the confusion.

I was thinking of getting this bag, what do you guys think?
I've read on this thread that some people are having trouble locating the spring black/gold combo cerf. I just got one last week from saks and I am pretty sure they have more if anyone is still looking (I know the fall ones have different hardware).
ah i love the black cerf!! (w/ the gold cc closure) i still like my brown one, though i would have preferred the black if there were any left at neimans. there should be some left from the actual chanel boutiques bc i went a couple of wks ago when they got the new cerfs in and they had every color of the older cerfs on display! i was upset bc they had a black one!! ahhh so pretty. i do love the new cerfs though!

Yep, the bidding is at 1075 right now.... I reeeally want it, it's so hard to resist, but I just baught a green balenciaga classique yesterday. My brother would kill me if I got this too since he pays for most of my stuff

I don't have any pics. it's quite similar to chanel's classic tan (which is alternatively called "beige" and "camel"). it never occurred to me to like it before either, but now I want a tan bag and I think the cerf would be a nice vehicle. the new style with the rhodium closure comes in tan but I think it looks better with the gold cc's (which I prefer anyway). one interesting point: one SA told me that the one with the gold cc's is identified as the spring/summer style of this bag, while the rhodium one is the fall/winter. I wonder what modifications they will make for next spring/summer?
I think it's hard to say at this point (and I guarantee you will get a different answer from each person you ask). I remember when the cerf first came out a few years ago and it didn't seem to do well and went away. then they reissued it this year (maybe 2004) with the gold cc's (which is what the original had). so it hasn't really been around long enough to know what they'll do with it. one SA told me the one with the gold cc's is part of their permanent collection, but I recall this bag being very hard to find in the recent past. I do think the rhodium closure is going to be seasonal -- the gold cc's are just too chanel to get rid of it entirely, don't you think?
Okay, so I bought the new taller version of the cerf last week and I haven't used it yet because I'm having a dilemma and was hoping you guys could help.
I really like the new version because I think it's elegant, I tend to prefer silver over gold, and the look is very modern. BUT I also really like the gold CC version, because like you guys have said, it's so classic Chanel and well, I love the CC clasp (if it came in silver, I'd be all set, I guess). What to do what to do. I have a few days before I can't exchange the bag so need to decide soon. Any advice? I wish I could get both, haha, just so I wouldn't have to choose...

julie - it's hard for me to justify which one you should keep coz I have only seen the old cerf with the gold cc clasp and I have not seen the newer version only seen the smaller size that kare posted the picture in white. But will you still be able to get the old cerf with gold cc clasp?
