Chanel Haute Couture F/W 10.11 Paris

Than Lagerfeld must die in order for Chanel to go bankrupt and be saved by a hero... (Hedi Slimane).

it will never happen. even if lagerfeld dies outright, the revenues chanel earns from the perfume alone remains the stuff of legend. they gave nicole kidman two million dollars to appear in an advertisement for just one of them. the makeup range has a dedicated clientel from 17 to 107. there exist women who collect chanel handbags like young boys collect comic books. and even if karl lagerfeld did not exist, there exist a contingent of women who order chanel suits every season merely to keep up appearances.

hedi slimane, no matter his merits, has expressed his passion for menswear almost exclusively. realistically, there exist very few who could handle the direction of a house that massive: seriously, it produces plexi trinkets for teenagers on the one hand, hand-made couture suits for octogenarians on the other hand, and something for everyone else in between. maybe a handful of people in the world could handle something like that.

Hedi Slimane for Chanel? That's a pretty random combination.
Since the Lagerfeld Retiring rumours when people were suggesting Elbaz for Chanel, I have to admit, I'm slightly turned on by that idea - I'm imagining Alber's designs in Chanel tweed and how great they'd be..

^ Yes, that happened to one of the earlier shows, too...

Slimane for Chanel would be a dreadful match, imo. His aesthetic is completely wrong for women wear in general and for a commercial brand like Chanel in particular.

Yes, he is the only one I can think of that could come after Karl with any kind of credibility. But I seriously doubt he could handle the sheer size of the mastodon that is Chanel.

I really love it! Okay, there are some really horrible outfits, but the collection is not that ugly! There's a lot of elegance in this collection, and that's what I love about it!

Whoever going to come after Karl should continue Coco's and Karl's tradition first then steer the house slightly to her/his own Chanel-based direction. If s/he does sth like Christophe Decarnin to the house of Balmain (turn it 180 degree), I will be shocked to dead

Yeah, or that he'd want to go as big as Chanel. There's an interview with him on the first page of his interviews thread about how he isn't planning for world domination (granted it was four years ago, but I don't think he'd change that view).

For me, it's hard to find the thread that sews the collection together; it seems so all-over the place (which happens when you have so many looks). There seems to be a medieval influence, which I'd love for Dior under John (and 8 years ago, preferably) or Alexander McQueen or Givenchy, but not for Chanel. Karl always brings the roots of the House forward, which are too heavily associated with 1930s :ermm:

... Love all the collection.... The gowns are really great, the same about the accesories.... Great collection !!!!!!!!!!

i looove most of the white/nude pieces, but a lot of them i don't like, at all.
it's just too much. too much gold

Karl messed up this HC. This doesn't look HC at all actually. Just boring and like many of you said, grandma style. This HC season sucked, the one who did it and actually made a HC collection was Givenchy.

But I like the lion though!;)[/COLOR]

I was thinking....would a house have different designers for the different collections? For example, one designer for RTW and another for HC? Since Chanel is such an extensive machine and seemingly very few designers can fill in for Karl.

I would think there is no question that Chanel will need several people to fill Karl's shoes...:(

I'm with you man!
Disasters flowers from Dior, boring baroque from Chanel, uninspired Gaultier, Saab can do it better and Valentino...well Valentino ALWAYS is a disaster, poor mr Garavani.
Tisci made his best Couture ever!:woot:

The only thing that I don't like of this collection is that horrible giant lion.., the rest is perfect but I would like to see one great pianist playing a live section B). All models look nice ;)
