Chanel Haute Couture F/W 1996.97 Paris

Such a gorgeous collection. Jacket on Amber is one of my favorite KL designs. Looking at this I wish Karl had continued doing fashion shows in more intimate setting. Presenting in huge spaces made his work less impactful.

While I do enjoy the larger scale runways that Villa Eugénie has been doing since 2000, they work better for the ready-to-wear collections. Haute Couture is too intimate for such large spaces.

Probably a 10/10. There is not one miss here. Not one bad proportion - all of these looks are chic and need to be shown on a runway in Paris. The worst looks are the two with the hands and the sleeveless turtleneck on linda.

I love the short military eque tightly spaced button placket because you can see Karls thought process in reimagining the same idea. the little cropped jackets - then he kept the same tight spacing proportion but with the larger buttons later in the collection. Then he used the length of the placket to place the embroideries later in the collection.

Lots of effortless LBDs. Amazing frothy but structured cocktail length and gowns and the chinoisierie gowns.

The stand out look is the sort of greige tired gown at the end because it is so Karl.
