At Tuesday’s Chanel fall/winter 2004 presentation in SoHo, The Daily learned that Chanel is NOT, we repeat, NOT having a sample sale this year. Though the sample sale typically occurs once in July and then again in December before the holidays, a Chanel rep said that the company sold their entire inventory.

Christina Greeven Cuomo: “Kudos for Chanel for selling everything! That’s what every fashion house dreams of.”

Jackie Astier: “I’m so disappointed because they usually have such goodies there and more importantly, everything’s always my size! I wonder if they’re still having it in London. Perhaps it’s worth flying out there for.”

Elizabeth Loomis: “Wow! I need to think about that one. Their things are all so beautiful, so I guess I’m not that surprised.”

Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos: “I’m devastated—what would we do without it?”

Lauren Davis: “Go to Woodbury Common Outlets! [Home to a Chanel outlet] Besides, they never have the bouclé at those sample sales anyway.”

I find it VERY hard to believe that they sold every single piece from seasons past. Who bought it all?

dunno. but samples are NOT meant to be sold at he boutiques anyway. so the SAs must have snapped them all

Ok, so I'm embarassed to not know this, but what exactly makes a sample sale? Is it just remaining inventory or what? Where does the 'sample' in the name come from?

its either a sample thats been worn on the catwalk or a sample that was gonna go into production but DIDNT

That is for most, but I know the Prada/Miu Miu sample sale in New York also has tons of junk from the floor that just didn't sell from previous seasons.

it's usually invitation only and they probably wouldn't give you the info...
doesn't hurt to try though...it's usually done through the showroom though, not the store and i think their showroom is in paris, not london...

^ they are sold at sample prices ... sometimes 30 - 80% off ... absolutely insane! Chanel purses at Gap prices ... I've seen mothers killing their daughters killing each other for deals
