Charlotte Gainsbourg

Wow. I love it. With Charlotte, it is only too obvious that the music would be totally original and totally compelling, and it is. I do not think it is an exageration to think of Charlotte as the "New Piaf". In my mind, there is no question that she has become the voice of France today.

i love all those pictures in post #266. especially the third and forth. the short hair looks so good..

Listen up all you folks in Britain!

A few years ago I watched an incredible documentary called French Beauty, dealing more specifically with cinema goers fascination with French actresses. It's an absolute must-see, including interviews with Bardot, Deneuve as well as Tautou and Marceau among many others ( I think Charlotte briefly appears at a Balenciaga show). It is now being repeated so don't miss it!

Watch it on BBC2 Monday 24 July @ 11:20pm

Follow-ups can be tricky. Your fans want something familiar but not too familiar, and the critics want to hear you "stretching your creative limits" or some similarly overused phrase. So what do you do? You bring in the pros, of course.
Singer/actress/Serge Gainsbourg spawn Charlotte Gainsbourg has this formula down pat. Everyone may have forgotten her 1986 debut Charlotte Forever (or never really known it in the first place), but a recent Billboard story reports that the daughter of everyone's favorite creep will be collaborating with Air, Jarvis Cocker, and producer Nigel Godrich on her new album, 5:55.
Cocker and the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon contribute lyrics, and David Campbell (aka Beck's dad) arranges strings on the album, which is scheduled for release August 28 in Europe and September 4 in the UK. A North American release date has not yet been scheduled.
Gainsbourg previously appeared on Badly Drawn Boy's 2002 album Have You Fed the Fish? and Madonna's Music (she's the French chick at the beginning of "What It Feels Like for a Girl").

Nigel is so amazing, i dont think she could've picked someone better to produce her album.

i love the everyone's favorite creep part.

Youre welcome ! Im glad you liked them. ;)

Here are the last ones I had saved from Starface :

This pic was taken at the Sarlat film festival in 2001,where she was promoting "Ma femme est une actrice" ("My wife is an actress" by her hubby actor and movie director Yvan Attal)

I love her Burberry rain coat
This pic was taken right after the "21 grammes" press conference
This is Claude Berry who directed "L'un reste ,l'autre part" ("one stays, the otherone leaves")

And the last pic of her & Loulou.

I'm not feeling either of the songs!:(

Guess I was expecting her to channel a bit more of her father's songwriting abilities. I  Serge.

I hope she's on September's NYLON cover to promote Science of Sleep!! LD

^oh wow, i should get that!.

I like her new songs, they have this very...quiet atmospheric sound, I can understand why she'd invite Air to collaborate. it's definitely not serge material, it's just her own style, I'm happy she's not channeling her father and following something that speaks more for herself.

Does anyone have the full version of her myspace's "The Songs we Sing?"

Here is the cover from Amazon.com:

She just embodies the charm discretion and she is such a good actress:woot:
I remember I was so in love with Sisters' Brontë works when I was younger and, when I watched Charlotte in Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre I was in seventh heaven  . Have you watched it ?
