^ I just heard about that and I'm really psyched! I Vera Wang and I can't wait.

I think it's more likely he'd buy a Victorian house in one of the neighborhoods and re-do the whole thing, like his Notting Hill store. As far as I know he owns the properties that all of his stores are located in so wherever he ends up, it should be interesting.

I think that's really different and interesting. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the new Paul Smith store.

I was in Barneys Co-Op today and the SA mentioned a new "mall" on Armitage...Intermix will be there, not sure who else. Not too excited but I thought I'd pass on the info.

Oh I forgot to tell everyone Barney's on Oak street is going to expand. They're going to build a 2-3 story section accross the street where bang and olufsen resides and have a bridge crossing the street between the original Barney building and the newly built one. This is about to start VERY soon too!

Okay, I got back from Chicago today! I had a lot of fun, but unfortunately, we had to leave a day early, so I had to skip most all the shopping. To add salt to the wound, my mother wouldn't let me buy anything that would be "the equivalent of a small mortgage payment" (read: any clothing)

But it was fun all the same, and I purchased some books at Barney's and ended up carrying their thiry pound weight walking around for some six hours.

yep that's the one they're going to renovate. I think there's a Barney's Co-op up north, but I've never been there.

You Live In Iowa an You Go To Barneys For BOOKS? Who trained you to shop on vacation?

I know, I know, it's sad. (And it's my own income that I can't use!) But it's easier to justify books to a parent than it is a $900 bag or a $700 pair of shoes. And until my mother stops being such a cheapskate, I'll be stuck wearing American Apparel and J.Crew. However, my bank account is expanding pretty nicely due to my lack of ability to buy things.

(The books were Balenciaga Paris, Marc Jacobs, and the 20-pound Taschen Fashion History book)

It's one thing if your family can't afford luxe-clothes, debt is never any fun. I used to have friends that would drive themselves into the ground buying things they couldn't afford. (Credit cards.....)

On the other hand, if you can afford it, why not buy it? Why hold back? I'll buy a $2 t-shirt from the Goodwill, but then I'll go out and grab some luxe-items if I want.

My point? If you have the freedom, exercise it, and enjoy what few people in the world have access to. Learn to appreciate it.

^^Well, my family as a whole definitely cannot afford any luxury items. I, on the other hand, with my *lovely* part-time job, can 'afford' it without using credit. But without approval from my mom, any spending is a no-go.

Then start cashing your checks at Western Union or something, and secretly save up like $2k and then blow it on your next trip here.

Trouble is, where do you put all of your new clothes? Convince your mom you won one of those ridiculous shopping sprees.

I went there recently, and there was a great selection of designer pieces for less. It is a vintage/consignment store. I was very impressed with some of the labels they carried including Dior, YSL, Jill Sander, etc. The staff was also friendly and helpful. Check this store out if you love looking for a bargain, the pieces were in great condition.

There's this nice consignment shop called McShane's Exchange on W. Armitage Ave.

Yup, another vote for McShane's, as stated earlier. I don't think they carry menswear though...They have great selection of designer shoes and very gently worn too. Hardly a scratch on the soles of those prada shoes.
