Christie Brinkley in Hamburg for 'Extreme Makeover' event
Her star power aids fundraiser in Hamburg set up by TV show.
Cameras rolled as Christie Brinkley made her way onto the field at Hamburg Community Park.
But the cover girl wasn't modeling.
Instead, she was coaching - and occasionally cheering - during a flag football game Monday afternoon that raised more than $2,600 for the American Heart Association in memory of Andrew Urban.
Urban died of a heart attack on Feb. 5, 2009, less than nine hours before his wife, Trisha, gave birth to their daughter, Cora Catherine.
The ABC-TV show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and the Home Builders Association of Berks County are now replacing Trisha's Tilden Township home, which was in disrepair, with a new home.
Brinkley, who also spent the morning at the building site along the Hex Highway, said being a part of the project was emotional.
"I'm so happy to be here," she said, smiling and dabbing her eyes as she walked back to her limo. "It was such a moving day. I feel like I'm going to cry. It was so touching. Oh, and now I'm crying."
Brinkley, whose appearance was arranged by ABC, watched from the sidelines for about 45 minutes as the teams battled for touchdowns.
The "Extreme Makeover" designers played for part of the game, which was refereed by Olympic swimmer Kristy Kowal and speed skater Allison Baver, both Berks County natives.
"Touchdown, touchdown," designer Paul DiMeo yelled after scoring.
Flapping his arms like a hawk, the mascot for Hamburg High School, he added, "Fly away, fly away."
During the game, representatives from the American Heart Association collected donations and distributed information about heart disease.
"The big message is heart disease is the number one killer in America, and it can be prevented," said Todd Mosetter of the association.
Mosetter said he admired how much Trisha and her family want to give back to the association despite all they've been through.
The $2,625 raised during the game will be donated to the association in honor of Trisha and Cora, and in memory of Andrew.
"I can't believe how many people are here," Trisha's father, Peter Baney of Bern Township, said as he scanned the crowd. "Berks County has really come together."
Spectators said they enjoyed watching the game, contributing to the heart association and meeting the celebrities, who posed for pictures and signed autographs
