I would never do that. If I buy something, it is because I am buying it. I think the buy-wear-return thing is SO tacky.
I feel horrible when I have to return something because I discover it is damaged when I get it home, or it looks simply awful when not in the dim, murky limbo of a dressing room. I think I have returned clothing items maybe 4-5 times in my entire shopping life. It is so embarrasing to me to have to go in and request an exchange or a refund. I feel like a tool for buying something then having to turn around and take it back. I sometimes wonder if I look like I was doing the buy-wear-return maneuver, and hope nobody thinks that is what I did!
