Coco Rocha

much respect to coco rocha for speaking up and speaking out. i read her blog post and i thought it was awesome. when i work with models i always go for healthy first; i don't like to see hip bones protruding and emciated looking girls, i find that look disturbing.

hopefully this is marking the beginning of change in the industry.

It's so refreshing to see a model who respects herself and her health.Who is well worded and confident, and interested in more than just material success.

Exactly! That's what i think too, and it's rare in the business, Go COCO!

That was a great blog post. I really think Coco's voice in this matter will continue push this long-debated issue into new (and better) territory. I'm so proud of her! Plus she looks great in the Milan showcard.

I ADORE COCO!!!
I am also sick of models being too skinny and that people tell them to loose more weight, so it is wonderful that one of the only models I like stand up for this and say things need to change. Coco is inspirational :heart:

oh and her Milano showcard is gorgeus.

I cannot ever claim to have been Coco's biggest fan but have always respected her work as a model and she has done some outstanding editorial work.......but my admiration and respect for her had multiplied ten-fold after her stance on this weight issue.
For a model of her standing to speak out is admirable and very brave and more power to her.B)

It was indeed very brave of her speaking about the weight issue, and she expresses herself really well.
Great to see that she has a Milan showcard, I hope she does some good shows there :)

I read the NYTimes article a while back on her blog & I just have to repeat my admiration for her. Team Coco (Rocha)!

I have watched a couple of recent videos of her and she is really quite thin....I do not think that is the reason that she is not in demand. I think the fact that she has tacky hair extensions and a terrible colourist is one reason. But really, she is not that good a model-I'd say that is why.
Some of her work for JPG was great when she looked a bit more natural, but other than that she has been very ordinary.

Say what you will about her looks (although her standing in the industry is a pretty good testament to her beauty), but her talent in front of a camera is pretty much unsurpassed. You're entitled to your opinion of course, but I think you are a member of a very very very small group of people who feel that way.

I think that her position in the industry is more of someone who is trying to be a celebrity rather than her modeling. It is not her looks that I was discrediting-she is a beautiful girl-but rather her capability as a model. In my opinion she is not very diverse.
She lent herself well to the whole super slick, super retouched US Vogue aesthetic-but nothing else stands out to me as particularly natural or creative.

WHAT is with the horrible eye makeup? Why do they want them to look like they got beat up?

I wonder to what extent you know her work. Today she's clearly a top-model and therefore a celebrity within the industry but in the days she started out, she had a wide range of houses as customers and was much more one of the alien girls, see her two subsequent Balenciaga campaigns.
I can understand why people would think Coco not pretty or just not their type of model, but her range goes from H&M and GAP to Dior and Chanel and there is a massive body of work to prove that.

This whole Coco not being in demand anymore.... IMHO I don't think it's got anything to do with her weight. That whole 'Coco at her skinniest and then told to lose more weight' thing and her popping pills happened years ago. She spoke out about years ago as well. The press has only just picked up on it. I don't her weight hasn't changed for a few seasons. I haven't seen any difference. I think it's more to do with fact that she's been in the industry for a few years now, designers are getting tired of her and are using newer 'fresher' girls. Is Coco even making an effort at modeling these days? I mean, she has her clothing line and she's also doing some presenting on E! Canada. She might feel she doesn't need modeling. Which is sad, because she is a great model. I'm pretty sure Anna Wintour isn't putting her in US Vogue because of her weight. I mean, come on. If her weight really is the reason, which I don't think it is, I'd say she'd over come it.
