Coconut Oil

Well i've done a bit of reading and sounds like coconut oil is one of the healthiest things you can put on your skin. Im gonna give it a go.

Also
As a "functional food," coconut oil is now being recognized by the medical community as a powerful tool against immune diseases. Several studies have been done on its effectiveness, and much research is currently being done on the incredible nutritional value of pure coconut oil.
Yummy.

Thanks guys

I hear the best way to absorb the nutrients when eating coconut oil is to eat the oil with raw greens..salad. Any opinions?

Is there anyone who uses the coconut oil for the 'oil cleansing method' ??? SomethingElse, do you? :o

^sometimes i do, gius. i'm very much into the dr. erno laszlo splashing method (oil, soap, warm water to flush the pores clean) it works pretty fine with my organic calendula and lavender soap bar. great effects on the skin.

Just do a search on it on Amazon, for Nutiva Coconut Oil, and some good health food stores have it.
I wouldn't recommend other other brands as this is the only one I have heard from others is really clean and properly manufactured.

Since I had moved to LA I was suffering from dry breakout skin (like , HELLO, whatcha gonna do with that, right?) ,blackheads etc and one day
this model showed up who had the most amazing skin and asked her what she was using, and she told me about the coconut oil....

First I only used it on the body. Takes a moment to soak in, so I usually sit in bathroom sipping green tea for a few mins, but once you get used to it, it soaks in much faster.

When i started using it on my face instead of moisturizer, i broke out more at first, because I was also eating it (4 times a day by the spoon) and it cleans out toxins etc).

I completely stopped using everything else (eye cream, dermalogica face cream, creme de la mer , face masks/treatments etc etc and whatever else i was using over the years).

But once your body / face gets over the initial thing? Oh my!
My face rarely breaks out (only before period a little but just for 1 day and is gone) and glows! I don't need to use foundation anymore either, only mascara and lip gloss.

Only other thing I use is glycolic toner by mario badescu to take off dead skin cells (I don't use any exfoliator anymore , either, it just scars your skin) and mario badescu glycolic face wash 2-3 times a week, otherwise I just wash my face/hair/body with Castille Soap.

You can also use it as conditioner for dry hair, just put it in hair overnight or before you wash it , I always run fingers through hair with leftovers, just to give it a nice sheen...

when you google coconut oil, you'll find out that it is antibacterial/antiviral even.

Enjoy, and let me know how it works for you!

I want to try it but I am scared it will break me out. I use some of the same products you use to use but have foudn nothing that I cannot live without or that makes my skin glow. Did you notice a big differance in the condition of your skin after using it and how long before you noticed a difference?

I do use coconut oil to keep my skin clean and moisturized, and I really regret it when I don't! I also use lemon juice, corn meal, avocados, cucumbers and all sorts of other things from the farmers market to maintain my skin and hair properly.

For preparing food, I use coconut oil (or olive oil) instead of butter, always.

I've read so many labels that require a chemistry degree to comprehend and that really disuades me from using any products off the shelf.

I do not use it for OCM. I haven't tried, but it seems like it would be a little too thick with the castor oil which is also kind of thick. I've been using a 50/50 blend of castor oil and jojoba (or Jason's vitamin e beauty oil) for OCM and have been very pleased.

I've never used it for cooking , I generally use olive oil. But I agree completely that's why I love Lush products because as a company they use transparency and really strive to use natural and animal friendly products.

like someone said, you can take your tub of coconut oil into the shower with you (naughty naughty) and after a while it'll become less thick.

I've got my coconut oil/butter today and i must say it's amazing, i love the texture, i love the smell and it's made my skin ultra-soft.

Does it have to be Nutiva coconut oil? Or are other products just as good? I went to my local health food store and they had about 4 brands, but none were Nutiva.

And if I were using it as a moisturizer how would I apply it? and how much?

Nutiva is top drawer, but any pure, organic or biodymanic coconut oil will do. It looks solid and white, but it melts in your hand very easily. Test a bit on your legs and you will see how little you have to use to moisturize your skin. You can even use it on the area around your eyes! A little certainly goes a long way on face and hands. Use the coconut oil in the evening before sleep rather than an under-makeup moisturizer.

I don't use a foundation so I don't know how it interacts with any cosmetics.

Thanks for the replies, guys
I actually don't use castor oil for OCM--i use only coconut oil
I think some members have been using other sorts of oil too...not necessarily with castor oil

Well it's morning now.. I did the procedure yesterday. My face isn't oily but I wonder if it will get oily as the day progresses...

Jade/// I think as long as it's a good quality product (like organic... extra virgin etc.) you can use it; and you can also read the ingredients if they're adding some extra strange things
I use tropical traditions and although the smell is incredibly strong, I only need to use a fingertip bit of it for two to three parts of my face (so 3 fingertips I guess) because it melts and it covers so much skin so well

my skin is naturally quite oily, do you think coconut oil would make it worse? better?

Coconut oil should not make any difference in the natural oiliness of your skin. It's just important to use the oil sparingly, preferrably in the evening, then cleanse your skin thoroughly the next morning.

Witchhazel astringent is a good follow up to close pores and remove any residual coconut oil. I use diluted lemon juice, but that doesn't work for everyone.
