Comme des Garcons Homme S/S 06 Paris

 its EVEN worst than i thought,
rei finally managed to create a tacky collection,
congrats and bye bye

I hated this at first. I didn't see why she would bring in Mick Jagger at all. I was going to say that I like it when the designers use music as inspiration, but CdG isn't doing anything here except putting the Rolling Stones logo all over everything. But I looked at it a while longer, and it's a totally different collection if you look at it pretending the logos aren't there, and I guess that's what makes it cool. I'm not really explaining it that well... but I think it's really neat that she made a two-way collection...

And I love the gold shoes too!

i am most entertained by this...
^_^
it's very 'pop-py'...very andy warhol...

the comaprison to bernhard wilhelm is absurd....
why?...
just because it's prints??...how ridiculous ...!!
it's not even in the same ballpark...

the cuts of the suits are great and i know that when it all gets into
the store..it will look great...
there will be pieces which are more easily 'wearable' than others...
but that is ALWAYS the case with comme..
this is no different...

at least it was a fun SHOW!!.. :D

thanskf for posting all the pics

hm.. i don't find it even all that bad. i like the cuts and the smaller prints, singular pieces in a different context could look great.
Totally agree. I like the jackets with lyrics, although I'd be disappointed with the actual lyrics if they're Rolling Stones lyrics.

I like this collection! I don’t think it’s intended as an homage to Mick Jagger at all-> the lips are an iconic pop image & I agree with Space--quite trendy as with KISS imagery & other rock legend logos...I think it’s a clever humorous concept and more fashion forward than many of the Mens ‘themes’ being explored atm…

yeah, i totally agree. :flower: i think rei always presents things that are avant garde- risky critiques... she knows it could be perceived as an overload of bad taste, but remember..rei isn't that simplistic of mind... i guess instead of creating 'lace' w/ deconstucted sweaters and creating an outrage..she's doing it w/ this trendy iconic images.

i like the white jacket w/ the handwriting. that's it so far :(

I definitely think this collection takes a bit of figuring out, which some people like and some don't.

CREATIVE director Rei Kawukubo went full throttle rock 'n' roll for the new Comme des Garcons collection. There was hardly an inch of cloth not smothered with Mick Jagger's iconic lips-and-tongue emblem - from suits and sneakers to T-shirts, shorts and blazers. The occasional pair of boxing shorts had DNA plastered over the waistband and some suits had strips of musical scores up the legs and arms. "Rock is the symbol of energy and rebellion," said Rei backstage. And her models, with just-out-of-bed hair and wry smiles, had plenty of both. (July 2 2005, PM)

She's said in both the articles that she did this to show energy and rebellion, but that seems too simple for her, like travolta said. She's not going for "cool," but it also doesn't strike me as that ironic of a collection.

maybe, but it doesn't pass the i-would-wear-this test, the way a long green fur Versace coat wouldn't.

this collection is simply not creative, that's all. i expect Rei to be creative, leave the pop cop-out to the likes of John Richmond.

She said in her post show quip that she "chose Mick" becuase of his energy. It was a personal reference to him not the pop image. Faust is right I think to an extent about it not being creative - the lips imagery is really NOT creative at all. It is a gimmick, and it seems to me to be very UN-comme to use pop/rock imagery so literally. The pity is that there are some nice things in there like the tartan jackets and the suit shapes etc are nice. It's just obscured by the gimmick. I don't actually think it will be that toned down in the stores - there was certainly a huge amout of pink in the stores this summer - they didn't shirk from the show. THere will be one or two things that will be nice I think, but as a collection it's just wrong.

i think the point of this collection is an orgy of rock n roll image to a point it's not gimmicky at all. in my point of view it's like she's gotten lost in this moment like a fit of giggles and it all comes rolling out at you at the same time. it's very light hearted in a way and kinda offensive in another. it seems genuine though -- what purporse would she have w/ gimmicks anyways?

I think that from all the prints I have seen from shows, the nasty lips and tounge one is the best:-)

could it be just in order to create a kitch 'non cdg' collection
seems perfectly normal to me, she could be bored keeping the 'academic' flag flying, she could also be expressing the need/trend for the ridiculous and the-non-taken-seriously B)

I think some of H+ collections were described "bad taste" as well before, Lena:-)

i wonder if she is bored (esp. with menswear)......and she is just having a bit of a laugh.

Good points about wearability, though I agree with softgrey’s post above…

...I’m very much charmed by these lowbrow inspirations: first the pink panther & now the ‘nasty lips’ imho it looks like a deliberate —and refreshing—direction she’s choosing and not a gimmick/ or subst. for creativity...

Prada makes star and heart prints, how pretensious. Ann D uses paints, "artsy", isn't it. Flowers, jacquard prints, dots, anything else?

Here you got a "lick" "in your face" :-D. This is just too much, too straight forwards, too literal, too primitive. But this is what rock is about, and that's why people play rock, no?:-) Forget the subtle singing, scream:-P

we must be listening to two different kinds of rock :D . jumping around on stage wearing unconventional clothes is not what i look for in rock, although it may be a part of it. first it's substance and depth in music, then the image, no? ^_^
