complicated construction

hi, im an aspiring designer with many ideas but the thing is i dont know how to go about constructing them. for instance how would someone go about constructing something like this (where the seams should be, type of hem, etc.)...

That does not seems hard to create pieces, just a lot of work.
Since it is not a slimmed model, I would recommend you first to m ke a pattern that matches the silhoutte.
And when you got this simple pattern, draw lines where you just cut it into the pieces you want. Cut and sew. I guess thats how I would do it.
It Is a two piece outfit, right?

I would recommend starting out with making your own basic patterns. Cut up an old shirt/pant/skirt and mimic the pattern, and then alter it a little and allow it to evolve how you would like. Perhaps look at a couple books for construction and patternmaking, as well. There are some here.

I'm not sure what level you are in the sewing department, but I feel like if you're not yet familiar with constructing your own patterns yet, that anything you see on the runway will be quite hard to duplicate, especially if you only have one photograph of it

basic patternmaking can help you a lot. that top-dress for instances is a very basic shape but has all this curved cuts...its not as difficult as it looks....sewing skills on the other hand are highly required as all the pieces must fit like a puzzle. id say just go for the basics. and then use your creativity..things like this are not teached in school.

i recently made a coat that has similar curved cuts and although it looks so hard to do, it actually just took me a while to figure out where i wanted the cuts and numbered all the different pieces so they could match.you can see it on my blog..you always have to think a garment is a puzzle after some practice you learn how to deconstruct any garment out of the runway in seconds.

It's when there are darts and you make a cut across the pointed tips of all the darts, to make a seam. This releases the darts and creates a new shape.. You don't need the darts anymore afterwards since the shaping will be done by the yoke.
