Controversial Opinions on Fashion

I wished Gigi would've remained in her own Californian girl charm, doing some VS, some sport illustrated photoshoots, Nike, Reebok campaigns and so on. High fashion skyrocketed her career but her abilities leave a lot to desire. I mean not everyone has to have chiseled cheekbones, you can also look cute and curvy depending on your genre.

In retrospect, Gigi almost arrived too late on the scene to have a career like that. VS and SI were on a downward spiral when she appeared. She would have had a more fitting career in the early/mid-90s, when they were at their peak. Born too late, I guess.

Maybe not fitting for the thread but this is one of the monstrous editing I've ever seen. Her face is fine but there's just one giant elongated boob. Her other hand is bigger than her face and the whole arm is distorted. Then there's that other mini-arm ending into a scary claw with two amputated fingers. Finally there are the gnarly E.T. toes, which could've use a bit more editing.

Lmao, I just picked the photo because I liked her face and long blonde hair, I didn't even pay attention to the normal details.

That has been on my head for a while and she would've been perfect for the bombshell look. She made a huge career in this era so..

Gigi was born 15-20 years too late for making it big solely off being a VS type girl but I agree she'd have been big in the 90s bombshell era. That said, I think she actually arrived on the scene at just the right time to have a high fashion career, when high fashion designers/brands/magazines were actually opening up to using models from the VS etc commercial side of the business (ones who weren't named Gisele that is).

I dont really know where to put this, but ive been seeing a red thread through a lot of design lately and its storytelling. So many designers are presenting collections and garments completely devoid of ideas or silhouette but hiding it behind thick layers craft and craft storytelling. Resulting in these overworked and overproduced objects, instead of things to wear. I see this everywhere. Im so sick of these stiff overworked garments on hangers. I know people love this crafty stuff, but I just find it a rock to hide behind when you havent got a clue.

This is probably only unpopular for the general population but not here.

I have always wondered why Paloma gets runway bookings when she is both plus sized and the shortest in the casts. Standing out for one characteristic is the norm usually, but when it's 2 she really sticks out distractingly among the tall and thin line-ups.
Connections. Good ones.
But even Paloma has lost weight. I think it’s a very obvious thing

I’m gonna say just to be contrarian I think he did what a lot of other designers and white people in general do to the nth degree. Not that it makes it “right” lol but it was kinda funny looking back on it, even if I do think it was stupid slop.

Sometimes, I think the state of fashion magazines would actually be worse if Anna wasn't around. This is an opinion that's taken me a long time to come to.

There is no "vintage fever". There is a nostalgia for early 00s fashion and vintage is having a moment because of it. But nobody - at least inside of the cool fashion crowd whatever - is wearing pieces from idk the 30s, 60s or 40s. And this nostalgia got zero to do with ecology, anti-consumerism, etc.

Related to fashion but it's larger than it: I find the whole back-to-nature, offline, "experiences" instead of buying luxury objects so annoying. I won't call it fake , it doesn't matter, it just irks me as an easy solution. Ok, you spend more time with nature and buy less clothes but I think that's missing the point.

They're not buying less clothes to spend time in nature, they're just buying different clothes.

I doubt most of the new influencers know anything about fashion in the 30s, 40s or even 80s nor are they interested in it. Fashion made its last *boom* in the late 90s, also the camera quality was much better, you could record runways or even certain events. One cannot say the same for the decades prior the 90s. As for the 00s, most of the new influencers experienced it as children and just want to go back. Plus it's more culturally close to the 2020s.
