Cover Rumor Thread

Exactly, political discussion is not allowed in tFS.

WWD published this article today, it's an interesting read.

Thanks for posting!! :flower:
I certainly don't appreciate the juvenile tone of the article. The writer seems to revel in the fact that Vogue was so brazen to back the wrong horse, and will now have to face the consequences. There's also no mention of Elle's Chelsea Clinton cover, a far more blatant move than anything Vogue did, to be honest.

I think of ANYONE from the House of Trump will get a cover it will be Ivanka.

Now SHE is an interesting character.

I saw nothing juvenile in that article. In fact, I thought it was pretty objective about the role of fashion magazines in politics and Vogue's active involvement in this year's election. It is indeed a fine line to walk, which, apparently, Anna wasn't even trying to walk. She went all in for Hillary. She lost. You gotta live with the consequences. Although in this case, I can't see that many negative consequences for Anna or Vogue. Their target audience is probably overwhelmingly pro-Hillary anyway. And it's not like anyone ever turned to Vogue for credible political coverage, let's be honest here.

The only consequence I can see is Anna's inability to get a Trump on the cover. I still maintain that she needs Melania more than Melania needs her at this point. Melania is now going to be the first lady of the United States. She's gorgeous. And will probably attract a lot of publicity. Fashions crowd might revere Anna/Vogue and their position in the industry, but they pale in comparison to the position occupied by the US President and the first lady. I don't even see how that's a question. If a competing publication is able to snatch Melania, Anna and Vogue will seem irrelevant light-weight.

If so, it might be the first US Vogue I'd consider not buying. Been collecting for 10 years now (without a miss).

^^^^same here. Been subscribed/collecting since I was 15 and this would be the first issue I would literally just toss away.

But I don't think Vogue needs Melania. She needs Vogue. Plus, Ivanka would get a cover before Melania gets another cover (I think Hilary Swank originally had the cover back in Feb 05)

This little part of the article caught my attention:

"Interestingly, she thus far has been buying almost all the designer outfits she has worn during the campaign."

This is a small detail, but an interesting one. It shows that designers were certainly not clamouring to dress her. And, I have to assume it's because of their dislike of Donald Trump combined with the influence of Anna Wintour's campaign for Hillary.

It's sad - and perhaps unfair as of now - to say, but it's incredibly disappointing having Melania as a First Lady, after the brilliance that was MICHELLE OBAMA (who was literally the picture of confidence, intellect, grace, dignity, poise, etc).

I'm certain it's Karmen Pedaru on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Australia for December.

I now think Natalie Portman may get December US Vogue (since she's had a January cover before), which would mean no Emily Blunt. I just hope there will be a Leibovitz fantasy edit, not like last year's reconstructed Alice in Wonderland with M&M.

Was Emily Blunt rumored for December? Does she have anything to promote? Her movie came out a month ago. It didn't do well - box office wise or critics wise. She has no Oscar buzz. Would be a weird choice.

I doubt any of the Trumps will pose for Vanity Fair, considering how harsh VF has been with Donald. VF will surely put them on the cover but it will be a stock photoshoot or event photo, like their covers of Katie Holmes and Brad Pitt.

I also doubt Anna Wintour will cover any of the Trump ladies in Vogue now. Sure she did in the past, but things are very different now.

Like Kite, I actually think Ivanka might get it, especially after putting Michelle, which Anna will use as a fresh reminder that she means well.

It makes sense Vogue would strongly campaign for HC, her demographics according to CN are college educated.. it'd be financial suicide to promote what only the haystack-loving ones find aspirational, in parts where Vogue is probably not that consumed in comparison to urban areas. But Anna has no principles, she can easily do a 180 for the sake of unity and 'credit where credit's due' (Ivanka is at the center of NY society), I mean.. if she can accept money from the Syrian government to publish an article on their great looks and great-looking "democracy", she can afford to have Ivanka Trump on her cover..

I definitely don't think it will be Melania.. she's already been on the cover at her most interesting (aka. her most silent and mysterious), the little exposure she got in recent months exposed her too much as a random former escort. She's too hard to generate any buzz, even their party knows this. Ivanka on the other hand, sounded relatively sane, articulate, educated, was brought up with fashion (and didn't just get a makeover) and most importantly, can move her face.. she's easier to forgive and to sell in a fashion magazine at this point.

^ Good points, also Ivanka is a longtime Vogue favorite, she has seriously been featured at least 10 times over the last 10 years (recently in last year's March issue)! But still i 100% expect to see Melania, as well. We will get both.

I can def see Ivanka getting an American vogue cover...and I would not mind a bit. In fact, I can see her taking on the role of first lady... she already has a platform that is more suited than whatever Melania is talking about..

Lady Gaga's on the cover of US Harper's Bazaar for December/January, and it's their 150th anniversary issue.

I do not want to see any Trump on the cover of Vogue. No Melania and certainly no Ivanka, who I think is even worse. She has been such a big and active part of Donald's hateful campaign trail. A lot more than Melania.
I also doubt any big name designers would like to dress those two ladies who back a man who is so anti everyone who is not a white, straight male.

Agreed! Most certainly don't want to see Ivanka on Vogue. I'd buy that issue purely to set it alight, like Francesca Eastwood did with that Birkin bag. Only, it won't be in the name of art at all!
Then again, they've had one reality star on the cover, so why not another.......

Just heard some rumors that US Vogue December issue was Hillary Clinton and January 2017 was going to be Michelle Obama, but for some apparent reasons Hillary was replaced, so I'm wondering could Hillary still get a cover or just a editoral?
