Cover Rumor Thread

Vogue's 120th Anniversary was celebrated with Lady Gaga (September 2012)

September 2017 (Vogue 125) suddenly became a very very important month. Let it not be you know who please. I doubt that they'll randomly give it to anyone. Gaga was huge back in 2012, worldwide #1 album and singles and was embarking on a world tour.

I don't know if this is news, but The Daily Beast confirms that Vogue will likely have Melania Trump on the cover, according to Anna:

Vogue magazine will likely put Melania Trump on its cover, Anna Wintour told The Wall Street Journal in an interview published Thursday. The iconic fashion magazine made its first-ever presidential endorsement last year, backing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton against the eventual winner Donald Trump; and Wintour herself has been an outspoken supporter of Clinton and Barack Obama. Former first lady Michelle Obama appeared on three Vogue covers, and despite the political differences, Melania Trump will likely not be left off. “We have a tradition of always covering whoever is the first lady at Vogue and I can’t imagine that this time would be any different,” Wintour explained. Melania did grace the magazine’s cover once before, in 2005—long before her husband ran for president.

No surprise there, like she said; its a tradition, Politics are left aside. Still shocked anyone would think Wintour et Vogue would refuse to go there, they can't wait to get her on the cover!

Sept for sure!

For me it's not that I believed she would refuse to go there it was more the hope that on this occasion, she'd pick morality over figures, with the support of Conde Nast. But sadly, this more than likely won't be the case. She'll appear, no doubt trying to humanise her wretched husband and his views.

Anna needs to step up and use her platform to stand against the rise of fascism and totalitarianism in the US. Shame on her for agreeing to let Melaina Trump be in this cover

September for sure, she is not going to sell. Brands who pay top dollars for Ad pages are going to be anxious. The women who buy and read vogue did not vote trump (the vast majority) and the 54% of women who did are not going to spend $10 dollars on a mag because she is on the cover...

Likely they will put her on a slow month or just feature her inside the mag...

A tradition of featuring the First Lady in the magazine, not giving her the cover. Only Hilary and Michelle have covered Vogue under Anna's editorship.

^ Yeah, but do you honestly belive her husband would let her shoot for Vogue without getting the cover offer? Come on!

As for her being too controversial for the Sept issue, the brands would jump for the hype alone, just as CN suits & Wintour would rather get PR, hype and controversy than make a stand. I know this is cynical, but i don't except any of them to show any morals! What Wintour said in that interview, says it all really! It's already on the table!

Well, middle-class white women apparently, voted for him so I don't know...

I don't think that for a second but my eyes roll all the way to the back of my head when people refer to the First Lady getting the cover as some centuries old tradition that must be upheld at every cost. Anna only cares about business, publicity and pleasing her higher-ups, traditions or no traditions. The people who thought her Hilary endorsement meant something and are now flabbergasted at the thought of Melania getting the cover obviously think more highly of Anna than you and I do.

Just when I thought US Vogue had hit the rock bottom when they gave Kim K the cover... I can't imagine how much backlash they would get this time when Melania is on the cover. Grow some spine Anna!

I just cannot handle the idea of the First Lady on the cover of the 125th Anniversary Issue of Vogue. I just can't. I for one, am not buying.

Lol and oh, darling, having 2 First Ladies on your covers (which aren't even consecutive) is not a tradition. Lol. Please. Stop the flimsy excuses and own up to your choice. If you want her because having her on the cover symbolizes the magazine's ability to access the most powerful people in the world (which other magazines can't do) then own up to that. Don't reduce it to "tradition". It's rather insulting.

Hang on, how come Laura Bush didn't get her cover? The injustice!

Ugh, this news is so unsettling. Call me credulous, but for a split second I did think Anna would stand by her much publicised views (it's not as though her personal taste and that of Vogue are so very mutually exclusive!). Back to Laura Bush, I imagine part of the reason why she didn't get her cover was because it was impossible to sell her to women, AND her husband was not very popular at the time. What's different in this case? I suppose if Vogue could publish a puff piece about that Assad woman, this won't be a stretch for them.

The cover will obviously be for September! Those Trumps know very well that it's the most important issue of the year. And shot by Annie Leibovitz. That is, if Annie shocks me by actually showing an ounce of morality and turn them down. Testino, opportunist that he is, will clear his diary to shoot her!

Moderator's note: The original article quoted never says that Anna Wintaur will put Melania Trump on the cover.

if you care to read the whole story in the WSJ you may do so here.
or you may search for the story using google news. there you will find a link to the entire story.

it pays to check the original source, not to jump wildly to conclusions. Any baseless rumours or discussions may be removed from this thread.

Is it really a tradition? I mean, they've only had Hilary and Michelle on the cover. If it was a real tradition, Laura Bush would have gotten a cover!

It's so lame that she's getting a cover, but I guess Trump already bought her one before. Whatever.

For those of you wondering, yes, Meisel's still shooting VI covers.

I hope the cover will be released sooner under this new EIC. What's the point of having to wait so long when the end result isn't all that good anyway.

Well I never even thought of Meisel leaving VI. It's like saying Testino will never shoot for US Vogue. CN is very particular with their cover photographers, and I doubt that they'll let Meisel go — who was part of the VI magic.

What I'm more excited to see is the new vision of this EIC. Will he control the output of the photographers ala Anna / Alexandra, or will he let them have their creative freedom with some control ala Franca.

Esquire Uk is Keanu Reeves.!!?!?/11??!?1??!?/1
