Cover Rumor Thread

^ Lol, but no seriosuly? Is she honestly on the cover just because of her wedding? I don't follow her career after enduring her god awful show, but that is nuts.

Vogue's women empowering agenda, giving women covers when they are getting married.

For the January 2019 issue. Yep. When can we get Edward to Vogue US? We need him ASAP. Anna's 69, that's past retirement age in the US, she needs to go.

Yes, she's only on the cover because of her wedding (and her millions of IG followers, can't forget those).

It's no coincidence that her 'career' was mentioned third in the preview writeup. That's because her music career went nowhere- remember this song with Pitbull? Neither does anyone else. Quantico only had buzz because she was the first Southeast Asian woman to lead a network primetime drama, but it was never a true hit and once the novelty wore off, it was cancelled. Her big movie debut in Baywatch flopped.

But good for Priyanka for being a woman of color who's not Rihanna, Bey, Lupita or Serena to book a cover, even if she's way less accomplished than other women of color actresses in Hollywood and is only on this cover because she's getting married to a Jonas brother. Good for her, though?

^ Whoa, had no idea she had a music career, but i do wish she got the cover because of her work not who she is marrying! We have to acknowledge she is defo not the first one to get the cover because of personal life, celeb partner.etc

And she truly is gorgeous, this could be a nice cover, preview shots posted are beautiful. Is this the first Indian woman to grace the cover of American Vogue?

I find it interesting that they released who their Janaury cover girl is, with previews, but no actual cover. That tells you how bad things are even for Vogue. It's not a good PR strategy either, imo.

Is like they did with Stormy Daniels article in the october issue. I guess they released the preview because the wedding celebration started this week (according to Bazaar)

M&M shot her for GQ sometime last year and it looked great.

Dua Lipa was photographed by Mariano Vivanco for British GQ, but I understand completely how you could think it was by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot since the outcome was very reminiscent of their work.

I remember posting in the thread that I loved the outcome... because it was so M&M. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to M&M shooting Dua Lipa for British Vogue's January cover, and something dark, moody and fierce would suit just fine.

Of course, she's not the first woman to get a cover because of her relationship, I'll definitely acknowledge that. Case in point, Amal Clooney. But at least Amal is seen as an accomplished lawyer (at least that's the PR spin, I don't know enough about Amal to really know is that's the case). And at least George is a major movie, formerly major tv star, with an Oscar.

Meanwhile, Priyanka is getting married to a Jonas brother and despite having a big machine behind her, hasn't been able to make anything happen for her in music, tv or film. At least not yet. As such, this cover is looking like her 2nd biggest career accomplishment to date, outside of Quantico.

Lastly, I would just think that in December 2018/January 2019, especially with everything that has happened in the past few years, that readers/magazine consumers would be beyond that. But according to Anna, I guess not. Oh well, it's her magazine (hopefully not for much longer).

Apparently she's wearing her wedding dress on the cover so they're holding to release it after the ceremony...

Apparently Elle UK have shot Stormzy and his 'women to watch' for a cover.

She already got Marie Claire, W, Instyle and Glamour, so why shade on Anna? Hilarious.

I don't think she's getting her cover just because of her wedding... Nick Jonas isn't "powerful" enough like Donald Trump, Kanye West or George Clooney were when Anna put their wives on the cover if it's the case... Hailey wishes.

Wedding or not is a well deserved cover.

All things considered in this situation, the dress reveal via a Vogue cover doesn't surprise me as much as it should. That picture looks good; I'm buying (into) it.

The EICs of those magazines didn't give interviews to other press outlets essentially saying "To be on the cover of [their magazine] has to mean something." Unlike Anna. So when there is a discrepancy between what has been said and the end product of the cover, people (such as myself) will shade Anna. Like she deserves.

I mean, come on, if people didn't buy Priyanka's music, watch her show or come out to the movies to see her films (and it's not like she gets constant raves for her style in her Star Style thread either), I doubt they'll rush out to buy this cover, no matter how beautiful she might look in a traditional wedding look (if that rumor is in fact true).

Hailey also hasn't been cozying up/kissing up to Vogue staffers and wearing Marchesa either. But Priyanka has.

So that's actually the real reason why she's getting the cover. The wedding provides a nice story for the profile since she doesn't have anything substantial career-wise to promote, unless she's also promoting that Rebel Wilson film in which she's a supporting player. Doesn't exactly scream success but that's how Anna operates at this point, so it is what it is.

Sounds dreadful! Why would Anne Marie and her pro-women stance pull such a stunt? And coming from some rapper.

Thanks! It definitely looked very much M&M.

Is Priyanka Chopra the first Indian to be on the cover of US Vogue?

I actually don't mind her at all because I'm all for diversity and one could argue that the reason why her career hasn't really taken off is because Hollywood doesn't offer much roles for girls like her. But given that her upcoming wedding to Nick Jonas is what has been the talking point of her, well, entire being at the moment, I do find that rather cringeworthy. I have nothing against marriage at all, and I'm all for her--and Anna--celebrating a life-changing event like wedding. But to give her the cover for those reasons alone is quite tone-deaf given today's feminist-leaning era of celebrating women beyond the realms of basic domesticity. Like it or not, it makes her upcoming cover rather synonymous with Melania Trump's infamous cover. And let's call spade a spade, this would be a Marchesa-paid cover.

But anyway, as long as Anna is able to bring out breathtaking glamour out of Annie and Priyanka, I still wouldn't mind her having the cover. Though, knowing Annie, one shouldn't hold their breath these days.

Someone started a thread without the cover, again, and apparently the red dress is actually from Balenciaga which I found shocking because it doesn't look like Demna's style at all. And I'm sure he'd trow a little tantrum over being in the same conversation as Marchesa!

Minor quibble on this - Quantico was created specifically for Priyanka as a star vehicle, to my understanding, she had no competition from other actresses because the show was created for her.

Yep. Pretty much. Even Lainey Gossip, who's been on this whole 'feminist' kick recently (she wasn't always like this) and all about women 'showing their work' in Hollywood and work p*rn and all that jazz gave more space to the relationship portion of the profile than Priyanka's career when she wrote about it on the blog today.
