Nothing is going to go back to the way it was, for as long as social media is predominant, because everything now is optimised to be funnelled through it, meaning everything becomes a flattened version of what it could be, designed for nano attention spans, and never to offend.

It isn't going to get better until people get bored of that and start opting out or relegating it.

If you've always known a world with social media in it, that might be hard to imagine, but for the first two decades of my life, there was no internet whatsoever for most people, and life went on.
