Cover Rumor Thread

Someone put a stop to the resurrected domination of the supers already! :judge: Encage them and ship 'em to Antarctica or something...we have enough girls to fill their spots these days

I agree, the only thing guaranteed with this relics of the past is a heavily photoshopped cover.

Give Lara the cover, all this new models are much better than this old models ever were, I didn't like Cindy then as a model and certainly do not like her now.

how disappointing. Cindy is probably my least favorite of the supers.

Funny how people contradict themselves when they bash Cindy and push for Lara as if Lara is a fresh face who's never had a VP cover. And then throw a fit every time a new model like Kamila Filipcikova or Ali Stephens or Chanel Iman gets a campaign or cover. Sorry, couldnt help but point that out.

I'd really like to see a fierce supermodel group cover though, Cindy alone? Not really.

^me neither.
i don't have all this "supers x fresh faces" thing. i just like some models better than the others, you know, individually...i prefer kate moss and naomi over many new models but i also prefer, for example, sasha p., lara stone or natasha poly over cindy crawford...and - i'd just like to point this out - i don't prefer Meisel's boring favorites over anyone:judge:

That's exactly my point. That's exactly why it is funny. Rationalizing one's annoyance to see Cindy or any other aging supermodel by saying that overexposed top models of today (who are the same old faces we see on magazines anyway) should be given the chance to appear in a cover doesnt make sense. Just say that you want to see Lara Stone get her 5 millionth VP cover.

(I am not a fan of the supermodel era, I myself liked the more subdued era of Carolyn Murphy, Nina Brosh, Trish Goff, Audrey Marnay, Shalom Harlow, Amber Valletta at their prime. And I while I can live with Chanel Iman, Kamila is a statue.)

I do not get what you are saying...How can you compare a model like Cindy that has been around since the 80s with someone like Lara that belongs to this era. Even if she got the cover of Paris Vogue every month is still more logic than a women that is been around for ages and is not a good model anymore(if she ever was good) Lara or any other new model are nothing compared with Cindy.

I don't know if Cindy will be on the cover of Vogue paris :errm:. But i read that Madonna will be on the cover of the french Elle. I don't know when but it would probably be a reprint from Elle Us .

^Probably. Juliaane Moore is on the cover of Vogue Paris now.

yalil, if you were referring to my posts then I think you completely misinterpreted it. I love new models and I love it when they get covers (Kamila, Ali, as you pointed out) I also love it when big models of today's generation get covers and ads (Daria, Raquel, Lara - who had 2 VP covers :) ). And I do not like it when suddenly all the old supers are taking over virtually all major jobs. IMO, they are the faces of 15 years ago and therefore I don't want them shoved down my throat anymore...today's models I don't mind being shoved down my throat because they belong to 2008. That's all, no contradictions there :)

Yes!!:woot: Thank you, sethii. Sanity, at long last.

Dale, this so-called "resurgence of the supermodels" is about as real as your Prada rumour. It's all internet hype without any truth. They aren't taking over THAT many campaigns and covers, and it would be ridiculous if they did. I wouldn't worry about this and I certainly don't validate nor encourage it as I believe it would be disadvantageous to the fashion industry. I would surmise that the number of current bookings and contracts won't last longer than a season, unless the blue chips start recruiting more celebrities again, or if the general public demands (via monetarily) that today's models replace the celebrities month after month.

Admittedly, there is an unusual number of covers and bookings, but there are a lot of factors to consider as to why this is happening: Economic reasons for one, maybe nostalgia (why can't an older model be considered "refreshing"?)for another, and this is likely also related to other matters that aren't allowed to be discussed in this thread. I can appreciate the fact that you're a diehard model fan -- and it's because of people like you that help keep hardcore fashion relevant in today's world. But promoting the heck out of a model doesn't mean anything if fashion houses and magazines aren't meeting their bottom line. And if these older girls can't boost profits for their respective campaigns and covers, you better believe that Gucci,
Vogue Paris and company will be looking to other sources of income immediately.

And while I'm at it, it's time to give you, the moderator, a little moderation: I find your "oldies" comment a little insulting as I'm also of a "certain age". I had a lot of respect for you, especially back in the Supporting Cast forum back when I was a regular participant but now I'm not so sure now. I think it would be a tragedy if some of these women completely disappeared. You can call what's happneing now "being shoved down your throat", but I call it progression that an older woman is being used in these campaigns. No, they should most definitely NOT be a constant, dominant presence but I believe they they should have a place at the table.

I know it's hard most peope here to understand aging and the fact that it can be beautiful, but someday you'll get there and you will understand.

I will belive that rumor about Jourdan and Chanel when i see it, but its very exciting.

Shana there is not enough karma in the world to give you for this post.:flower:

I agree with your every point and i certainly dont see an attack of Supers like the rest therefore dont understand the drama, and as i said many times before i cant stand ageism, and i would love if members would be more respectable when writing such comments because as you said we will all get there and its just silly and on the level of gossip blogs posting, it would be a shame if this wonderful site became that distasteful.

i dont know if anyone cares but an upcoming issue of dazed and confused magazine is going to have a male model on the cover (my friend didnt know his name) and the theme is going to be: 'movement'.

^^There is alredy a thread with similar cover as you described.

I'm also of a certain age and I do not think what people been saying about age is disrespectful in any way, No one is saying that this women because they are older are not beautiful, they are saying they are sick and tired of them. I was around the first time and enough is enough, i cringe when i see them in covers and campaigns. Being a model is purely a superficial thing lets give space to this new generation.

IMO, There is no progression whatsoever by using this women, they are hired simply as vacuous celebrities , and everything they do is so photoshopped that sometimes they are almost unrecongnizable. I would call progression if a "new" 40 year old model was discovered.

I agree 100% with you here. It would be truly progressive for a cover and the industry as a whole. However, the average reader of American Vogue (sorry, I can't speak for other countries besides the U.S. and Mexico) is going to have to be conditioned to see and accept that as "OK", just like seeing a Black, Asian or Mexican face on a cover. But how does one go about changing that culturally ingrained perception?

Oh ShanaLucas I am really sorry that you interpreted my use of that word in that particular way. That is definetly not what I was trying to say at all. If Ali, Kamila and Agnete are the newbies then they are the oldies aren't they? That comment of mine certainly has nothing to do with me objecting their age. That has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. Les_Sucettes states exactly what I was trying to say...Really, if I came across as attacking them on their age then I really apologise, but I hope you realise that was not my intention and not my point at all. I hope this won't indeed lead to you losing respect for me as it would be based on something misinterpreted. I sure still have respect for you!

Just a note to everyone regarding the rumor that was posted earlier today: it's simply not true. I hate to be the bearer of bad news where Jourdan is concerned, but again the rumor is unsubstantiated. At the request of Jourdan's agency, the rumor and the posts in response to it have been deleted.

The problem with spreading a false rumor, aside from damaging the credibility of yourself and tFS to a certain degree, is that it can also effect the model. Citing false sources close to that model can end up making her look like a risk to any confidentiality contract. So please be more careful in the future where these issues are concerned. Thanks!
