Steven Meisel has just shot an entire issue of Vogue Italia with all black models, hoping that other issues of Vogue start to diversify their own portfolios.


Apparently, all of the photo shoots have already happened, as model bookers at various agencies have been contacted and sourced for new, beautiful, not-white girls -- and now they're twittering about how cool the issue will be.


No word on when the issue will hit stands or who's on the cover (Jourdan Dunn? Chanel Iman?), but whatever:

I think that's pretty cool actually. But I'm hoping if Jourdan makes it, then so should Chanel.

I like this news(and Jourdan is bound to be one of the cover girls), but I do have one issue.Agencies simply wanting any non white girl is a bit unfair, I think agencies should want the models with the most versatility and talent ,and not so much be caring about "oh I have to get my white model quota" or "I have to get my black girl quota".Skin color should not even be something that divides them, they are all people.

Aside from that ,my picks for this issue are Jourdan, Mimi, Chanel, and Kinee? Has Meisel shot with her before?

^I don't expect her to be in the issue...Esp since it's a Meisel shoot naturally and I think he will recognise that Tyra indeed wasn't as huge in high fashion as she says to have been. I am thinking that Naomi, Chanel and Jourdan are a lock for sure and that there will be others. Ideally IMO, Alek Wek, Liya, Debra Shaw, Iman and possibly Georgie Badiel, Kinee and Gaye? I know one thing and that is that I love this and can't wait to see it.

I know that over the past few months we have been discussing over and over wether or not to be happy about using black models for the sake of using black models but apparantly, that is what needs to happen to change something. That is bad indeed, but what's even worse is no change at all. Therefore I went berserk over Jourdan at Prada and will go wild over this issue. Hopefully, this will indeed change stuff.

Amen. On the surface it does seem like "affrimative action, Vogue Italia style," but I really admire Meisel for doing this. I think he is making a strong statement about the inequalities in the industry. I only hope that after this issue it doesn't revert back to its 100% white cast.

I would love to see Chanel and Jourdan on the cover, along with some veterans. I'm really excited about this .

Anyway is TI trying to tell us that there might be TWO covers with black models on it? And looks like Meisel is shooting ALL the eds in the black model issue as well...
