Cover Rumor Thread

anna clearly isn't an editor motivated purely by the number of issues sold. she's no glenda bailey with her nude pregnant britney august cover last year.

*cough* Jennifer Hudson controversy *cough*:innocent::ninja:

Of course she is concernced with selling- she knew putting a 'fat girl' on the cover of Vogue would garner A LOT of attention and sales. Plus it was so unexpected to have a african-american woman on the cover of Vogue; so Anna smartly picked Hudson to star on the cover so she could draw in a larger audience.

By the way - has a man ever been on the cover of US Vogue with a model or something?

* Who do you think will be on the cover of the September 2007 issue? The 'big' issue?

Who has movies coming out then? Or albums?

:p well actually that sounds like a movie that Vogue would promote to death!

And who usually shoots Vogue covers? It's either Patrick Demarchelier or Steven Meisel - so the cover will be one of their favourites and one of Wintours favourites.

Although wouldn't it be amazing if a actual DESIGNER was on the cover? Like Miuccia Prada or Karl Lagerfeld or Marc Jacobs? That would be AMAZING! I can see it now, Miuccia Prada with Gemma Ward and Daria Werbowy! B)

According to www.giselefan.org, Gisi is shooting an editorial for the October issue of Vogue Paris with Inez and Vinoodh.

Also, The Daily Mail reported on Sunday that Myleene Klass will be on an upcoming cover of UK Glamour.

^ Gisele with Inez & Vinoodh would be interesting.. but we have to wait all the way til October :(

Patrick and Steven hardly shoot Vogue covers nowadays. Patrick only did one since he's back at Conde Nast and Steven only did like 3 covers the last couple of years. The main photgraphers are Testino and Leibovitz, after that Steven Klein and sometimes McDean.

^^^ Oh, I forgot about Testino and Lebovitz :innocent::ninja:

Do you think it's possible that Catherine McNeil will get the cover? You know with her Testino exclusive and all? ;)

What about that movie "The Golden Compass" with Eva Green and Nicole Kidman - maybe Lebovitz could shoot either girl for a cover. Eva Green is pretty hot property nowadays too - with her Dior contract and what not...

Vanity Fair July 2007 : The Africa Issue by Annie Leibovitz

from wwd 6/4

LOVE FROM AFRICA: Bono and Vanity Fair editor in chief Graydon Carter clearly are thinking big when it comes to the magazine's Africa-themed July issue, which is being guest edited by the rock star-philanthropist. While multiple covers on magazine issues have become almost standard, Carter told The New York Times in March that he was out to do more than ever. How many more? Not five, not 10 — sources close to the title said it could publish as many as 20 different covers, all shot by Annie Leibovitz. Though it is not known who or what the covers will be, sources believe they will reflect Africa and its supporters in some way. A spokeswoman for the magazine declined to comment on the covers.

The effort is part of what Bono told The New York Times in the same March article is his goal of making the July issue "a best-selling issue of Vanity Fair, I want to make a hit record."

And insiders say Bono has been extremely hands-on throughout his tenure — editing story drafts and headlines and even giving feedback on photography. He's also been very vocal about stories he supports. Insiders describe him as a pleasure to work with, as well as smart and down-to-earth. Perhaps it helps that this isn't the first guest-editing gig he's had: Bono performed similar duties at The Independent in London and the French newspaper Libération.

While newsstand sales will determine whether or not Bono has crafted a "hit record" for the monthly, at least he won't be disappointed in the advertising. The issue will carry more than double the ad pages of the July 2006 one — 105 pages compared with 49 — and will set a record for the title's biggest July issue ever. "It's Vanity Fair, it's Bono, it's a special Africa issue — this is a very big deal. And it reflects a huge trend in the marketplace, which is social responsibility," said Edward Menicheschi, vice president and publisher of Vanity Fair. Year-to-date, ad pages are up 21.5 percent.

i think this was posted already, but more info...
from fashionweekdaily.com

Gemma Ward’s magazine cover streak continues. In 2005, the Aussie racked up four Vogue covers, appearing on the inaugural cover of Vogue China; Australia Vogue’s teen spin-off, Vogue Girl, in May; French Vogue’s October cover; and the December issue of Vogue Australia shot by Patrick Demarchelier. Now photographer and model have reunited once again for the debut issue of Vogue India, which is expected to bow in September. Demarchelier confirmed Sunday night at a CFDA dinner hosted by Nadja Swarovski at Top of the Rock that he had just returned from India, where he shot the 19-year-old for the cover and well story. “It has an angelic twist,” Demarchelier hinted. The title, to be based in Mumbai, will mark the 17th edition of Vogue worldwide.

if an 'age issue' is coming up - do you think it would be possible for the supers to come back and do a cover? Maybe a Naomi Campbell cover?

I mean who else is there, thats interesting, chic and aged? lol

**But then again, why can't the age issue have someone young? I mean it would be completely unexpected and Vogue hasn't done anything like that before...Lindsay seems like the only young hollywood startlet they could use - apart from Kate Bosworth or Kirsten Dunst or Mischa Barton. lol

i doubt they'll do a model again for the age issue..
last year was linda evangelista...

i was thinking it might be demi moore, who has a few movies out/coming out...
or possibly catherine zeta-jones...
it would be interesting if vogue skewed more young for the age issue than old...it's been a while since they did that...maybe jennifer aniston? actually you'd have to go back to 2001, when it was amber valletta...
natalie portman would be interesting, but i'm guessing she's getting the september cover...

movies from late august/early october:

jessica alba (good luck chuck with dane cook)
mischa barton (virgin territory with hayden christensen)
mandy moore (dedication with billy crudrup)
monica bellucci (shoot em up with clive owen)
scarlett johansson (nanny diaries)
naomi watts (eastern promises with viggo mortensen)
jodie foster (the brave one with terrence howard)
milla jovovich (resident evil extinction)
charlize theron (in the valley of elah with tommy lee jones)
jennifer garner (the kingdom with jamie foxx)
cate blanchett (the golden age with clive owen)
nicole kidman (margot at the wedding with jennifer jason leigh)

kiera knightley's silk doesn't come out until late october and nicole kidman's the golden compass comes out in december...
natalie portman's 2 movies come out near the end of the year...

Is there a place to find statistics on best-selling celeb covers for the various magazines? How do some of you know whose cover sold most?

^^ I'm not sure, especially since only insiders know about the statistics. Publications keep those details private.

Vanity Fair with Bono! I love his music and the fact that he makes such a difference!
Excited to see I&V with Gisele too! That's made my day... but we have to wait til... OCTOBER? :(

Of that list, I think the most likely candidate would be Charlize Theron. She hasn't had a Vogue cover in awhile. Although, I really do think Natalie Portman could be on the September cover, regardless of when her movies are coming out. She also hasn't had a cover in awhile and I think Anna loves her.
