Cover Rumor Thread

Another September to Remeber: (NEW YORK) September déjà? It's barely spring, but bookings editors at the glossies are already scrambling to lock down celebs for those pesky but crucial September covers. Dare we predict who will grace the newsstand?

W: Natalie Portman
New EIC Stefano Tonchi will need a cover star that sells copies—and Portman has enough fashion and Hollywood cred to make issues fly out of Barnes & Noble. Her upcoming film, Black Swan (directed by Darren Aronofsky and co-starring Mila Kunis), won’t bow until December, but it's already creating Oscar buzz, and scores of fash-fiends will flock to the theaters for the Rodarte-designed ballet costumes. Tonchi’s plan to make W “more of a general-interest style magazine, and less of a fashion-obsessed publication” would do well with Portman, whose last W cover was shared with Scarlett Johansson for March 2008.

Vogue: Carey Mulligan and/or Keira Knightly
Anna Wintour’s been harboring a not-so-secret fashion crush on ingénue Mulligan since her early Education days—but is the Oscar nom mainstream enough to carry her own September issue? Pas encore. So quoi faire? Bring back Vogue’s best-selling star, of course! Knightly and Mulligan will even make it effortless to pull off a double cover. The duo, who played sisters back in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, star as best friends in the upcoming film Never Let Me Go, tentatively slated for a November release.

Elle: Freida Pinto
Leave it to Elle to indulge a slightly riskier choice. The Slumdog beauty has lain low since her 2008 debut, but with an Estée Lauder contract, a Woody Allen moment (You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, bowing September 24), and rumors of imminent Bond girl-dom, the time is ripe.

Harper's Bazaar: Blake Lively
The all-American beauty is a Bailey dream, with that Gossipy resumé and equally delicious personal life—Penn Badgley, anyone? But the starlet is more than ready to step out as a serious actress, so we’re hoping for appearances in the issue by her The Town costars Jon Hamm and Ben Affleck, who can praise her acting chops then show their faces in the accompanying fashion spread (please?).

InStyle: Julia Roberts
A no-brainer. The bulk of Ariel's million-odd loyalists will queue up for Eat Pray Love in mid-August, and most of them will buy anything she deigns to grace. She’s back, baby—as if she ever left!

Marie Claire: Lady Gaga
JoCo is just brave enough to try this one out for the Duane Reade set. And what better occasion for Nina Garcia to really flex those fashion chops?

Cosmopolitan: Beyonce
The sex-crazed glossy may have a hard time getting the famously tight-lipped B to spill all the intimate details of her marriage, but if they can get her looking fabulous on the cover (and of course they can), who cares?

Glamour: Amanda Bynes
What? She sells! The fresh face and the totally unintimidating fashion sense (remember her Steve & Barry’s line?) make her a perfectly safe bet. She can wax on about her latest role as "a clean-cut high school student" who tells "a little white lie about losing her virginity"--no, really.

Teen Vogue: Emma Watson
Her last cover for Amy Astley bowed in August 2009, but that’s no reason not to revisit. The then-20-year-old starlet will be starting her sophomore year at Brown (we see a Proenza pre-fall letter jacket…) and promoting the heck out of those little wizard movies—which will open in very wide release in November.

OMG nothing is changing from year to year... it's been 10 years of celebrity dominance... what is all about... where are the progressive fashion views including dinamic and drastic changes... long dead?!

MMA - those are rumors and speculations right? or are they confirmed?

I would love to see Carey, but for the september cover? not sure she could pull it off.. but I wonder how much people really buy the magazine for the celebrity, I don't think they're that crucial to the sale.. I'm probably wrong though

Carey and Keira together could be interesting if it did happen... I totally forgot they were actually in a movie together.

Is that true what it says about Keira and US Vogue? She's their best selling star?

I don't think it's a confirmed info, because the list was made according to the new movies release dates which will be near the date when September issues are out.
I just hope W will put model on the cover, and I'm not excited by any of the other rumors.

I got excited with W! Especially now that they have a new EIC in the person of Stefano Tonchi. :) Hope it's true that Natalie Portman will grace the cover. :)

Carey Mulligan on US Vogue? Hell no. I mean, it's not that I don't like her to see on the cover of US Vogue but I think it's not yet the time for her to appear on the cover. Keira Knightley? HELL NO. God, so sick of her even if it has been 2 years since she last graced the cover. How about the rumors of Gwyneth and Nicole together on the cover? Sigh, I hope that particular rumor regarding the possibility of Carey or Keira on the cover is true at all.

Wouldn't mind Natalie on the cover of W. She nearly always delivers.

Really hope Carey is not on the cover of Vogue. The girl cannot pose. She does that same irritating smug look and tries to pass it off as a pose. Keira is nearly guaranteed a cover this year sometime.

I doubt Frieda would happen on Elle. It certainly would be a risk and magazines aren't taking risks at the moment.

I am surprised it has taken Blake this long to get the cover of Bazaar. I mean she has done pretty much every other major US cover. Except Bazaar and inStyle. So its bound to happen.

Don't care who gets InStyle to be honest.

Marie Claire for GaGa now thats an odd pairing! Surprised GaGa hasn't been approached by W yet.

Don't care who gets Cosmo to be honest.

No way will Amanda Bynes get Glamour September??? She does not have the selling power or the star power to warrant such a cover.

I would rather Emma got Teen Vogue than Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez or Vanessa Hudgens.

None of those September contenders excite me. Apart from Blake Lively and US Bazaar.
She's so beautiful it's unbelievable. I'd like to see something with a bit of edge for her though.

OMG! Carey and Keira on one cover would be stellar. It would be BIG! But if I will choose who I want to see on a solor cover, It would be Carey. I don`t like her that much but she`s a fresh choice. Can`t wait though.

Lady GaGa for W is something that`s interesting too. But it could change right, maybe that decision was done before they changed the E-I-C. I don`t know.

Blake just bores me to tears photographically, and otherwise. I can see what a Harper's cover with her on would be already.

But then in all fairness, Harper's does love a bland cover, so with that in mind she's a good choice! Ha.

No, there wasn't any info or even rumor about that, Gary101 posted his thoughts only, and mine too.

Doutzen Kroes for US Vogue.

^An editorial. I wonder who's the photographer. Thanks for sharing tarsha! :)

I wonder too why W hasn't approached Lady GaGa yet to appear on their cover. I mean, she's a big star now and she so deserves to be on the cover. As well as Dazed & Confused. :)

I agree especially considering she has only done teen and men magazines...and maybe a cosmo cover before.

I would love to see Natalie on W come September:heart:

I imagine Dazed hasn't gone for GaGa as i-D have already nabbed her.

She was shot a fair while ago by Knight for the 100 Portraits series, back in November/December wasn't it? Quite a few months in advance of it appearing.

Glad to know that Doutzen will be back in US Vogue. I was so tired of seeing her doing only commercial work, like VS, when she's a great model and can do high-fashion beautifully.
