Well i was going to buy this, not anymore I'm afraid...there is good reason why Conde does not use Kim. Besides the fact that for me Kim in a purely aesthetic level is probably one of the most unattractive celebs around, although I have to say they were quite clever with the angle they photographed her, they simply had to Oh well...

sh... I was going to buy this but I am afraid, I won't anymore... I just hate this cheap playing around with tabloid celebrities and fashion... I really liked the cover but I am really put off now... it doesn't even look bad but as I said, I hate people trying to get cheap publicity...

it's Kim Kardashian. Ricardo Tisci just revealed it on his Instagram. She's not wearing the mask on the cover, but she's wearing grillz

It is the same hair and top in the grill and mask photos, so unless it is a photoshop job, that's Kim Kardashian behind the mask.

Actually I think it is photoshop because the hair, including the stray hairs, is the same in both photos.

The Margiela mask cover had me all excited and then just NOPE

i thought the shock factor of putting kim kardashian on your cover was already and cleverly filled by W Mag. I don't need to be spending lots of money to see Riccardo making his friend happy by art directing a kim kardashian shoot.
I love Carine but i guess i'll pass.

Carine's well aware of who's hot and who's not, she's into relevant or controversial cover subjects. Roitfeld put Paris Hilton on the cover of Vogue Paris back in 2006. So, to be honest, it's not to my surprise Kim Kardashian's on the cover of CR Fashion Book. I don't mind seeing Kim on the cover.. at least the cover is a thousand times more interesting than both of Issue 2's (which I didn't even bother to purchase).

I adore this, it's unexpected, it's innovative, it really is something special. I love Kim even though most don't and it is such a surprise to see her get the cover. Carine is all about pushing boundaries and she really has gone and done it here.

And this is why I think the cover star as a concept is dead. I don't mind Kim K but the image with the Margiela mask was infinitely better than this.

Clearly this is an audacious moment designed to shock / get people talking / make people debate, etc. but really there isn't much that is legitimately shocking about it. Is Kim Kardashian on the cover of a fashion magazine really a hard sell anymore? At this point she's already covered Bazaar, Cosmo, W, so she's a fairly accepted fashion fixture whether or not people like her or deign to acknowledge her presence.

Putting a gold grill on her doesn't make her controversial (though we could have a whole other conversation about the inherent cultural appropriation behind the current fixation with grills) or exciting and the image itself isn't particularly appealing since she doesn't look her best. At this point it would have actually been more relevant to put someone like Lindsay Lohan on the cover if the goal was to get maximum tabloid exposure.

Also, I think Kim is an attractive woman but you should never shoot someone who has had rhinoplasty from that angle. You shouldn't shoot anyone from that unflattering angle, but all I can see is nostril asymmetry.

The cover with the mask is quite nice, made me think this might be my 1st issue of CR, but then I found out it was Kim. The cover is still good so that saves it. Then comes the content, which looks so boring (again). So unless the edits get better, next time Carine.

I liked the cover more when we didn't know who it was. Not because it turned out to be Kim K but because of the idea that it could have been pretty much anyone underneath that mask. It was a powerful image in that way. Now, I'm not as crazy about the cover and I wish they had done just one cover image (instead of the reverse images that CR normally does).

can someone explain to me what's groundbreaking or shocking / innovative about using kim kardashian in a fashion mag in 2013?

i'm not being sassy, im wondering if i'm missing something here. Cause well when this came out, it was pretty shocking. And it worked amazingly with the barbara kruger artworks, there was an idea behind it, wether or not it was to see more magazines it still meant something.

Now I really do wonder if Kim is the same person under the Margiela mask. I feel like this is the statement that Carine is trying to make. The first image you see is this glorious mask with the amazing crown on it which is intriguing...even the first people to review it in this thread gave it high praises and then as soon as you find out it is Kim K on the cover then people begin to find reasons to hate it.

why is everyone rushing to the fact that this should be shocking? i dont think shock factor was carines intention behind this. her vp editorials with a pregnant chain smoking lily, or raquel giving peta the finger, now those were intended to be shocking ... but this is another one of carine's tributes to family and pregnancy, which seem to be repeating themes in the cr books. fantastical has an awesome point ^

my only complaint is i wish someone other than karl would have photographed kim. the covers are amazing but the the inside photos are so underwhelming in comparison.
