I always take a look at

http://www.craftster.org

its full of customising ideas etc. Its a message board so you need to keep checking back.

I went shopping today for customising stuff you've inspired me to start again. I bought
Fabric paint in loads of different colours, Fabric pens in loads of diffrent colours, dyes, patchs, pearls, beads, sequins, ribbons, ric rack and a few more bits and bobs

I do some customizations in terms of cutting stuff up, etc. but not much in the way of sewing so I’m hoping to benefit from your collective wisdom here : )

I recently got a long skirt at a thrift store that I would like to turn into a sundress. It could just hang straight down or have some elastic under the bust if that’s not too adventurous.

The thing is I don’t have a sewing machine. Is this something I could do by hand or should I just contact a local seamstress or whatever the correct term is?

Thanks!

attached is a customized watch i made around christmas time. it was one of my dad's old gold watches and the band had broken, so i tied a ribbon through the little bars on the side of the face. its really basic, but just thought i'd add to the thread!

cut off and distressed frye leather boots with sandpaper...

threw in washing machine and dryer...

low temp in the washing machine...dryer for 30 min... :flower:

oh..what to do with the left over leather from the boots... :innocent:

:woot:

What about suede? Any suggestions? I have a black suede A-line skirt that is just too "normal and plain" I want to jazz things up a bit. I was thinking about splatting paint over it or something...but I don't know.

frankly...it sounds perfect as is and i wouldn't change a thing...
it's what you wear it WITH that will spice it up...i like really simple classic pieces in an unexpected material like suede or lthr...and i wear it just like it was wool or satin...:flower:

Yeah...you're probably right. I'll stick it back in the closet for "normal" wear. :)

could be good for a mtg or interview...simple, classic, but slightly rock n roll...

I was at the marni shop last week & saw the sales girls wearing very cute little jersey waistband things like this below.... they were wearing them with cotton shirts & cute cropped trousers. To buy they were E215. They were made of jersey & have buttons down the front - and were worn scrunched up.

so I was thinking of buying a childrens cardigan & cutting off the sleeves & neck so that you effectively just have a tube of fabric. Its not going to be quite as perfect as the marni version - but when its scrunched uo you are unlikely to tell the difference really. so I am on the lookout for an interesting childrens cardi.....

Can't wait to see you diy project Helena ! :flower:

Ideas & Suggestions For This Top/Dress....

I don't know what to do with this. I want to cut it and make it shorter because it's too long on me (comes midcalf area) and it looks funny without pants but with pants it looks too stuffy (imo)

If anyone has any input on this I would appreciate it. :flower:

cut it in half... us the bottom half for an interesting skirt.. and the top as a tunic... but not meant to be worn together. :ninja: The skirt part might be a bit large.. but you can take it in on the sides, i'm sure.

Thanks. :) If I don't do a skirt...I'll figure something out with the extra material. Thanks again.

i LOVE it...
i would never do anything to it...i'd wear it with leggings...footless tights....and flat gladiator-style or beaded sandals...

i love long tunics like that...then add a bunch of beaded necklaces or some bangles and there you go...:flower:

FABULOUS...!!!...

See I would say it's fabulous too except its a little big and I am sort of skinny (with emphasis placed on sort of) But I get your suggestion. I should put it on and take a picture of me wearing it so you can see how it looks on....

ok...so keep what i said ...but add a low slung lthr and brass belt...:flower:...
