spiritedwildfire: yoga is a BEAST . i had another session today and applaud you ^_^ it is tough to do, and it's quite easy to tell if you do not have overall body fitness.

Kate_Moore: :woot: great 3 day recap!!! what better way to spend time with your sister then to make her sweat and tire out :p

cutxpaste:  sounds like you took it light today  fantastic work, and good luck in sticking to a regular running routine!

Chrisdesigner: :muscles:. buddy - 'nuff said. ^_^

 this sounds familiar. :woot:;) great job!!! hope to see you more! :flower:

I realllllllllyyyyyyyy need to do something about getting back in shape. Hopefully this thread will inspire me to do so ^_^

uh-oh...sounds like a challenge. :D

the fantastic folks that post in this thread can only do so much...if you can find the time, desire, and effort to do so, we would certainly applaud you. and if you're still thinking about it...we would certainly support you as well. no worries ^_^

however what i do want to mention is that a lot of our posts focus on what we do, and how we do it. we are missing the mark on actually saying how it impacts us!

hopefully everyone else can chip in on this too:

what i can say about changing my daily routine, and my life style to accommodate this, is that it helps me work off stress (always a good thing), and surprisingly i feel like i have more energy during the day (even if my legs are sore as anything these days!). i'm actually a bit more relaxed in light of how stressful the work day gets. physiologically - my resting heart rate is low, i don't break into a sweat walking up steps (like i did at the beginning of the year - 3 flights up and down because i don't like using the elevator - to my office). from a purely vain standpoint - jeans fit well - or a little loose. i can see abs (welcome back guys! :D). my posture is better, and i'm actually a bit more upbeat personality wise (high on exercise! ^_^)

take your time nextnewface to figure out what benefits you want to see from exercising and from developing a certain regimen, and when you're ready - we're all ears! :D:flower:

3 min 5k pace and jog

Tuesday night stayed home and did abs and some hammy stretching. Feeling much better now!

spiritwildfire: I went to undergrad at UIndy....you have great places to run on the north side!!

oh, and SirSunday..I will give the question you posed some thought and post later.

Best Exercise Machine for Butt?

was wondering what you thought was the best machine for a butt workout?

SirSunday my pocketbook is really empty now... but i did buy three bags. hahahah.

today:
60min fat burner spinning
60min bodypump (les mills)
30min core class

feeling great and strong.

was wondering what you thought was the best machine for a butt workout?

Squats are one of the best exercises you can do for your hips, butt and thighs. There are many different types of squats . Stand with feet hip-width apart and squat, keeping back straight, abs in and knees behind your toes. Let your butt lightly touch chair and squeeze butt to stand up. Repeat for 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps and add weights for more intensity.
There are quite a few different squat exercises. Can be done using machine, although after an initial period, free weights are better.
Also will depend on your objectives, as to reps, and weight to be used.

Riding a bike is great for your heart and it also targets almost every muscle in your hips, thighs and butt. . You can also try Spinning at the gym or riding outside. Gear up to really work your glutes!

I'll include these as well:

For step ups, you simply place one foot on a step or platform and push through the heel onto the step. This is an excellent exercise for the glutes, providing you use a step that's high enough...just make sure your knee is bent to 90 degrees or less to keep it safe. The other key to making this move work is to concentrate all your weight on the stepping leg. In other words, lower down gently, barely touching the toes of the other leg to the ground. You'll really feel this when you take it slow and concentrate on the working leg.

The hip extension is an exercise that targets the largest muscle in the body...the gluteus maximus. For this move, you can hold a dumbbell behind the knee or use ankle weights for added intensity. Another interesting variation is to lie with your hips and torso supported by a ball, hands on the floor, and bend the knees. Then squeeze the glutes to send the feet straight up to the ceiling.

Deadlifts are great for your hamstrings, butt and lower back, but form is critical and you should skip this exercise if you have any back problems. To do this move, take the left leg back just a bit, lightly resting on the toe. With the weights in front of the thighs, tip from the hips and lower the weights as low as your flexibility allows. Keep your back flat or with a natural arch and make sure you keep the abs contracted to protect the back. Squeeze the glutes of the working leg to raise back up. Do 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps.

Hiking is one of those activities and it also burns tons of calories because you're typically going up steep mountains and maybe even getting into thin air, which requires lots of energy. Also, walking up an incline automatically gets your glutes more involved and, if you're wearing a backpack, you're really getting a workout. Plus, you get to see nature at its best.

Running, like walking is accessible, easy to learn, reduces stress, helps in weight loss, and it makes you feel good. Plus, it really works your butt, especially when you add a few hills to your regular running route. Sprints are another option for folks wanting to both burn more calories and tighten up the old tush.

Kickboxing was a hot item back in the day, but it's still a great workout. Controlled kicks work your hips, thighs and butt while complex combinations that include punches will target your abs to make them stronger.

Walking is easy: you can do it anywhere, anytime with no special equipment. There's no learning curve and it's something you can incorporate all day long. If you walk up hills, you can really target your glutes and, if you pick up the intensity, you'll burn some of that extra flab off your buns!

Lunges are a challenging exercise because they work so many muscles at the same time. On the front leg, you'll work the glutes and hamstrings and, on the back leg, you'll work the quads and calves. What's nice about lunges is that there are a variety to choose from.

What should you do if you want to make your butt/thighs a little less muscular?

This morning I had a 45 minute workout. A little yoga, jump roping, and 5 lb hand weights.

shoegal2183 - I've actually never been to Uindy, but I agree I have great running/biking trails. Can't wait for it to warm up a bit!

SirSunday- Yes, yoga is difficult. I can always tell a difference when I have been lazy and neglected doing my yoga. It has truly helped me tons, I love how it makes me feel. :)

Alright, so I have been starting to exercise again. Summer is getting closer! Yesterday I was on the treadmill for 30 and today for 40. On top of that I did some crunches yesterday and I plan on doing some more today.

Today:

Walked around my fair city  (Probably around 2-3 miles?)
40 lunges
20 squats
20 leg lifty things each leg

90 sec 5K pace and jog

 Hello my friend! Good to hear you're doing better! :woot:

Jenna-Maria :p skipped the 3 hour shopping workout today?! the 2.5 hour workout looks fantastic!

baddabling :woot: i have a lot of respect for you - i can barely take a half hour of yoga...:innocent: (when I say half, I mean 15 minutes...)

Chrisdesigner - great info, my friend. :D

Jetsetgirl :woot: fantastic work! thanks for giving us a recap!

spiritedwildfire much respect to you as well for the yoga! :flower:

chicfay :D
awesome work!

cutxpaste - good to see you keeping up on your exercise regimen :woot:

For me:
30 minutes of weight training this morning - bicep curls, preacher curls, etc. Modified squats using freeweights alone, overhead extensions, etc. Finished with 3 sets, 15 reps of pushups in 3 styles: closed hand (triangle), military push-up - hands square under the shoulders, modified - one hand under the sternum, the other extended out.

SirSunday well i did some shopping after workout. haha

today i have hangover...not proud of it.
but i managed to walk to my granmoms place for early dinner.
i walked about 1,5hour. and it made me feel good. much better and much needed fresh air... sadly i walked alone since my roommate couldn´t even stand. hahah

spiritedwildfire - great workout - that's a lot of cardio :woot:

Jenna-maria - does your pocketbook need the exercise? ;) Great way to work off that long night too...:innocent:

As for me: ran 4.4 miles (2 laps) around my favorite lake this afternoon. Needed nature, the warm weather, and sweat to get over a rough day.
