    1. An image; a representation.
    2. A representation or picture of a sacred or sanctified Christian personage, traditionally used and venerated in the Eastern Church.
  2. An important and enduring symbol.
  3. One who is the object of great attention and devotion; an idol: “He is... a pop icon designed and manufactured for the video generation” (Harry F. Waters).
  4. Computer Science. A picture on a screen that represents a specific file, directory, window, option, or program.

From a strictly high-fashion viewpoint, I believe that she has made an impact with her look, versatility, personality, and intelligence. In a dollface-obsessed era, she was able to intrigue without fail. In a society that thirsts for controversy, she was able to keep her genuity and continues to exude maturity whereever she goes. In a short commercial with a rather dark ambience, she was able to dazzle through words and expressions. No, she does not have the celebrity status that most "icons" tend to have. No, she does not wear Victoria's Secret's angel wings. No, she does not throw phones at her assistants or get caught on camera doing controversial things -- but isn't her low-key style exactly why she deserves recognition beyond what the fashion world can offer (Even if she doesn't seem to want the attention)? Isn't she a great role model for generations to come? ;)

eword can probably trump my words ten times over ;)

^Thank you :flower:

I think we focus a lot on definition #3, when definition #2 should really be prioritized ^_^

well, if in the icon section you can find erin wasson, why not daria?

guys, i'm surprised that you are surprised...
sorry, but why haven't you metabolised yet the fact that daria has done almost NOTHING since may 2006?
all the campaigns were shot before, since then she also reduced her lancome activity, she only took part in that london thing and honeslty she looked like she had just woke up - which i loved it-, she took part in 2 ss07 shows but one was for karl and the other one was probably a part of the previous contract with cavalli...

p.s.: and there are neither ads nor eds in view...

^It's not surprising that she's no longer #1, it's interesting that she has completely disappeared from the list. Isabeli, Patricia, Lily Cole, Lydia (Just to name a few) have all done much less than her in the periods you mentioned, and they have remained on the list, just at lower spots than before.

This is similar to Brad Kroenig's situation (He was removed from the #1 spot on the male side long ago, with MDC announcing that he would be included in the upcoming male model icons list).

Thus, this is no doubt foreshadowing a move for Daria upward into another section...;)

i'm surprised that you guys are surprised that she disappeared from the list.
ofc i can be wrong, but it really seems to me that you didn't catch a lot of little and less little hints she gave...
we'll see if she will be moved to the icons. are there not working icons?

sorry, i didn't see that you were mentioning me!
eerr... what does 'trump over' mean? i'll check the dictionnary...

i think that the discourse on her being an icon or not needs a lot of articulation and involves subjects i can't talk about here. if you're interested, you know where you can find me.

p.s.: well, certainly she's an icon in the 4th meaning! :p
pp.s.: gemma deserves to be #1, as long as these charts have any value.

Okay this MDC ranking discussion is getting way too serious. It's a website and it doesn't REALLY mean anything. I mean we all know Daria is an icon, a top model etc etc. She is no. 1, regardless of what some website says (in my humble opinion lol)

Now, to focus more on Daria and less on her 'ranking', here are 2 of the most stunning photos I've ever seen of her:

i'm not beyond those who know she's an icon... :p

kuba, you're missing the point. i think that nobody gives too much relevance to that site. what is more intriguing is that they removed her from the list. that's the news. along with her almost total disappearance since six-seven months.

actually, i'm not surprised that she's been disappeared for such a long time, like almost half a year now...

reasons:
1) it's just Daria's style, stay low and away from any attention (which is one of the things i like about her... no offence, but thank god she's not a VS girl... even though i'd like to see how she rule the runway and show her unique sexiness which will make other girls dim)
2) due to those busy months before her 'disappearance', it's quite normal to stay away from the spotlight for a while to avoid 'over-exposure'... remember the period when she has at least one/two eds/interview per month, so much that even we find some of them forgettable (but will never forget the disastrous V41 by Mario T, sometimes i think even Daria herself would wish she never took those pictures:rolleyes: )
3) she deserves a relatively relaxing period after such one/two exhausting season
4) she's probably working on some projects/ ad/ ed, which, of course, wont be published/out immediately and we'll see them in short future
5) with all those ad she had: LV, Chanel, Cavalli, Versace, and especially Lancome, i feel like she's never left

the model.com ranking aint that meaningful anyway... she's been No.1 for like 2 years, it'd be really weird if she stay there for 3 or 4 years and still couldnt get into the 'Icon' list...
i'm sure they'll put Daria somewhere soon... come on, they just wont forget Daria, she has 5 FW ad (including Lancome) afterall

thanks a lot, pella. that's probably the most intersting video about daria's modeling i ever saw.

I think she's an Icon because she did a lot of cover and interview to promote Lacome last year (and this year too). This cover of Time magazines is the prof of what I said.

I think she's on the same level as Angela Lindvall, Carolyn Murphy, Karen Elson, Gisele B. and Stella Tennant. If we don't see as much of her as we want to, it's probably because of Daria herself than the Fashion Industry.

Let's hope that she will do some eds, ads and cover again for the next year!

honestly, i don't think that a lot of covers and interviews sponsored by your brand and your agency make you an icon. :flower:

don't get me wrong, i love daria, but i don't think she's an icon yet... specially when comparing to gisele... they're both gorgeus models, who are very different obviously. Gisele changed the fashion world, and was chosen as the model representing the new sexy wave of the late 90's... the amount of work daria did in quantity dont get close to what gisele did, and if you ask out of the fashion world who gisele is, they will know, as for daria, i'm not so sure, supermodels are not only couture models, which gisele represented much more than daria... daria is the best TOP model right now, but not the best Supermodel, i dont think she earned that title yet, she may someday, but not yet... she's very unique, but didn't marked the fashion world as claudia, naomi, linda and gisele did... let's see what happens from now on...

Yeah you're probably right... Gisele got a little help with his famous ex boyfriend Mr Dicaprio.

Anyway, for me... she's an icon or she will be soon (don't forget that she was in the same ad (Gloria Vandergilb) than Kate and Gisele. Plus, it's not in her personality to do scandal or dating superstar, so it's normal that media are less interrested in her than Moss or Campbell.
