Daria Werbowy

Originally posted by romantics ; I just think it's astonishing the amount of work she still does because, in model terms, hasn't she been around for quite some time? Yeah she is been around since 2003/2004.

She's actually been modelling since 1997, but didn't hit big 'til 2004

yeah, she started when she was 14, but actually she made it big in 2003.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I don't think Daria for VS would be a bad thing. Remember the 90s VS days, when they had sexy, feminine models and advertising? Daria could easily replace Gisele as VS' main supermodel, but instead of having it campy and dorky, she'd represent what VS was all about: femininity. Throw out some of the current VS girls, and toss in Doutzen and a few other pretty models, and it'd be like when Laetitia Casta, Daniela Pestova, and early Adriana Lima were modeling. Classy, sophisticated, and as high-fashion as a mainstream label can get.

Not necessarily a bad thing.

this thing confirms my idea that between 2004 and 2005 daria had the opportunity to become a real supermodel, like gisele, then things went differently.

after Vogue Homme , things might turn differently.

Daria could be a good choice for VS shows, but not as a VS angel. She's very sexy, but she doesn't have the attitude "Look At Me"

Personally I would have liked to see Daria with a VS contract, however i dont nesessarily agree that she has the right body type that people would immediately associate with VS (but ultimitely its about repping all women and all body types). A lot of people say that VS exploits women, sure, but so does Dior, Chanel, Gucci and any Fashion house and any other industry for that matter. Im not saying this is right but no one can say that Victoria's Secret doesn't care about their models, they pump millions into getting the models that represent them out there and even lets them speak! lol. I think people have a problem with the commercial aspect of VS and its cheesiness, but i think the world needs a different representation of what a women can be- independent, strong and well spoken- Daria. VS could have given Daria a greater platform from which to speak and influence. I dont see why she couldnt have done both. But i respect her decision, ultimately its about what she wants and it seems to me that she didnt want to be the next Giselle.

300th post!
Thought I'd do it in the Daria thread (hehe)

I hope she gets the new Vanity Fair cover along with other supermodels!

Good point. VS should change the image of their model, because some of them sounds stupid when they talk (in shows backstage... Adriana Lima & Karolina Kurkova especially).

i think you're right! i think it all comes down to marketing and imaging and Daria can contribute on turning it around had she signed with VS;)

this VS discussion is getting intense!

meanwhile, im subscribing to this thread because i only know how fabulous she is, yet i never get to see her eds. im joining the daria club :mowhawk:

I think it is very respectable for Daria to turn down VC. She got new respect, she got haters, lack of appreciation and people who want another concept for VC.
It´s not for VC to change anything. They have always been like that.
Their trademark, models licking ice cream while walking down the runaway. Object.

Daria is more or less the opposite of what VC tries to present. And why should she want to change something they do not really (?) want to change.
(Has any other namable model rejected VC at anytime??)

Why can't she do VS and Lancome? They are different brands . a high end cosmetics company and a cheap lingerie accessories company

Not saying Daria is a supermodel but she is the most successful model of this new generation so she deserves the vanity fair cover. ;)

^ yeah it would be great to see her on the Vanity Fair cover . But i think it's amazing to see that almost every month she has an ed in Vogue (us,paris...etc)!
