Dario Vitale - Designer

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but do y'all think the Pradas would have fired Vitale even if his debut collection was an incredible, undeniable critical and commercial success?

Yes because Dario leaving Miu Miu (The Prada grp) to join Versace before the acquisition is considered an act of betrayal (by Prada’s standards)

Pardon me if I’m wrong (wasn’t Dario a Capri hire?) if that’s the case, then yes… even if sales were stellar, he wasn’t apart of the “Prada revamp of Versace plan”.

Additionally, Lorenzo B, Miuccia’s Son is quite difficult to work with according to an embroidery designer from Prada. She told me that he throws tantrums when people don’t listen to him (I guess it’s an ego thing) so I suppose Dario isn’t in his playbook to move Versace forward

Yeah, I assumed this was the case but wondered if their business brains might have overruled their petty grievances if it looked like he was going to be a hit for the brand :/

Though I guess if they were confident Mulier could do the same, it may not have been a huge concern.

Let’s not forget that RAF to some extent, pulled string or 2 for Pieter since they’re ex colleagues.

Unfortunately, if u ruffle an Italian’s feather, in a demented way, they’ll destroy the nest you built with them. So… there’s no way they can put their differences aside. Also GAY + Italian = nothing is going to progress til the next ice age 🤣

I had the feeling he is a spoiled child...it seems I was not wrong.

Dario was never on the planning when Prada family and company where thinking of buying versace PieterPan was on the nr 1 list as part of the plan if Prada would succeed to buy Versace.

As per company statements and hints given prior to his official firing at Versace :)

Miuccia prada ask Dario not to leave Miu Miu and also noted to him that they dont see him ready for such a big job as internally it became clear Prada was going to be making a bid as well for buying Versace at the time.

Also they don't want to have another Miu Miu 2.0 to canbelize Miu Miu as they learned with what happened when they bought Jil Sander and Helmut Lang having brands to close to each other that go after same type of clients.

And the where right Dario´s Versace has lots of Miu Miu ism in it.

Like father like son regarding Lorenzo. Patrizio Bertelli is notorious for being ruthless, so wouldn't be surprised his son would be the same. There's been moments where Patrizio would come into the stores to yell at the staff for weak performance. Also, staff are instructed to never approach Mrs.Prada for any reason, which I find a bit intense.

History aside though, I wondered if they might have had a change of heart if it became clear that Vitale was going to be a big success at Versace. But the consensus seems to be "No" 😄.

I think they may have looked stupid to fire someone doing amazing work to bring in Mulier whose aesthetic hasn't historically lined up with Versace's (even though my jury's out on him until we see his work there). Is Raf that convincing?

I truly think Prada has big technical ambitions for Versace. Pieter Mulier is just too oddly specific of a designer to laser-focus on years before they even purchased Versace.

Unless their plan is to just bait Mulier with Versace only to reappoint him elsewhere later?

Well time will tell :) how amazing Dario is & will be at another brand, if he is amazing he will shine in the next place as well.

But having 2 versions of Miu Miu ´s around might be even more stupid especially if one is making you lots of money over the 1,5 billion threshold why bring that in danger as Miu Miu's rapid growth helped the Prada Group.

It's not about how convincing Raf is (as much as it's fun to make fun of him), it's about choosing people that are an extension of what Prada sees as in line with their approach to design and taste.
Why the bought in the past Jil sander and Helmut Lang, Raf is an extension for Miuccia work at Prada thus Pieter coming from his circle and doing the new sexy ALAIA A brand that Prada also had ties with producing and designing the acc for ALAIA in the past.
Makes only sense to pull that person when your planning to buy a very well known sexy brand :)

Versace i the drame brand type of women Bertelli likes just as his mistress that he has a child with beside Miuccia, he always pushed for stiletto heels and sexy shoes at prada merchandising collection 2 things bertelli loves women and food as they would say in the company

People forget don't know that he has a lot of say in product design for the stores collections especially bags and shoes is his thing.
That's how they met miuccia and him he was coping her bags ......

Italian men: toxic and messy lol...

Jokes aside, if Miuccia tells you no and you go for it,you know how is gonna end..I dont think Daria is the ingenue to think if he got success with that collection Miuccia will have a second thought. I don;t know if it was a smart move from him, a little reckless (very gay Milano lol).

The Prada's have an strategy for everything which is not a bad thing is a way to do business but feeling sorry for the rest is not on their dna. About Lorenzo's behavior is not surprise coming from those parents,if they educated you in certain way they will replicate it. Miuccia's is adored but she was really evil according to some people i've met.

Like @PDFSD said, only time will tell.

the thing is
If you work at Prada you can survive anywhere and head hunters know this for years :)

They are very temperamental bunch and dont say things in a woke way, but the balance is high culture and striving to not be basic, when they are basic its often to meet comemrcial needs and its not the first choice.

Many places act like they are woke/safe space but the culture is cheap, so its a trade off and not for everyone.

loyalty is important but also rewarded in long term

Miuccia and Bertelli are mostly opposite, they clash hard that they have in common but its seen as a means to get to the best idea or decision.

Famously.. they live in Tuscany where he spends 60% of his time.
as he likes to be close to the factory and food :) ...his only true loves besides sexy women :)
same as his good pall the architect Roberto Baciocchi who does all the main non special prada, miu miu , church stores and windows and started working for them since 1976.

they are both classic womanizers
