Galliano kicks McQueens ***? I don't think so. Galliano is tired, dated and too much of a character for his clothes. McQueens is fresh, innovative and truly cares about the clothing he creates.

as far as status goes
Milan-Either Gucci or Prada
Paris-probably Chanel

I think this board is more about indulging the fantasy...

My vote goes to McQueen. He's not necessarily the most recognized by the Soceity/Celeb set, but he is, imo, the best designer working today. He's nothing short of genius.

I was wearing a gorgeous red leather Gucci belt with a "G" buckle, and a lady asked me what the "G" stood for. I told her my name was George.Originally posted by TheSoCalledPrep@Sep 26 2004, 09:23 AM
Pretty much everyone, even the least fashionable, would recognize the name/logo.
maybe that's what it is for you...but for me it is about having meaningful, intelligent conversations with other people who truly understand and enjoy fashion, design, art and culture...
and about everyone feeling free to express their opinions in an open forum...some will think me too serious and some will think others too frivolous...but that's what makes the world go round...and that's what makes tfs different from other fashion forums...
the intelligent part...![]()
"
I definitely do not view fashion (or tfs) as frivolous. I work in the biz and spend my free time posting here. The kind of style I enjoy both in clothing and in conversation is playful and generous. I find irreverent lo-fi diy fashion to be the most interesting because a.) it is what is accessible to me and most people, making it the anithesis of an elitist fashionista's approval-seeking wardrobe B.) it is created with an independent spirit often against the odds by artists daring to live the entrepreneurial life and c.) it's attention-getting ie. the best way to make a statement... however intelligent or unintelligent it may be.
And I do enjoy the fantasy posts on this board. Fashion is so aspirational and using our imaginations to express whatever it is we're feeling and whatever life we're longing for at the time is, to me, one of it's greatest charms. But I do also recognize fashion, and all art, as a social commentary. You can't deny that labels are status symbols to many, which is what drives the industry, and that, for some of us, it's fun to comment on that.
