I think it would be a good idea to define what semi-couture wants to say, to make it easier for the future posters, non?

Balenciaga S/S 2009 surely does belong here, though, the closing dresses were made using the couture technics.

afaik those dresses were made with couture fabrics, not technique

and i think Christian overly emphasized embroidery. yes, some embroidery is very impressive, not lots of embroidery does not equal couture or semi-couture.

it takes more than just sparkly embroidery to make me think 'ooooooh! special!'

high street clothes can also do tons of embroidery, yet it's not considered demi couture.

but Dolce & Gabbana have really lost their touch

They are considered Demi-Couture though, the first dress cost £65,000 and had clear pearls embellished throughout the dress.

no, i just pointed out to Mackos that those dresses weren't made with couture technique, but fabric.

no, i just pointed out to Mackos that those dresses weren't made with couture technique, but fabric.

The dress was pieced together with individual strips of ribbon that were individually dyed, rubberized or plasticized, then they were all sewn together and a few also featured pearl embroidery. The work that went into those dresses were of couture quality even if it wasn't a textbook technique. Just because something isn't labeled couture doesn't mean it wasn't constructed using such techniques. You should really take a close look at details and read more about how the garments were constructed before you make such a vague judgement.
