the G.V.G.V. pieces are in the NY store now...
they are a bit 'too much' imo....

the costello tagliapietro pieces look like they might have some potential...
maybe the first one...

a lot of this is too 'fussy' imo...
even for the junior market...
so many ruffles and gathers...plus a print fabric...
OY!...it's too much...
i don't imagine too many american girls liking these latest things...

:ermm:...

too bad...because i really like the idea of japanese designers being available at a place like uniqlo since i would never see any of their stuff in person otherwise...
i hope mercibeaucoup does something with them...
^_^...

thanks for all the pics runner...

:flower:

i also saw the gvgv stuff in store. wasnt really drawn to it. naturally, i'm not into color blocking garments.

i think the costello tagliapietra items picture the best here. i'd like to support them. i think we need more people that look like that in fashion. B)

I have to agree with softgrey. I never got the appeal of those ruffled tops, they were just too cutesy for me. However, when I was in Asia girls there really liked it...

That blue and white stripe dress looks really good though and hangs well. It was already on the sale rack in Beijing like a month ago and only two were left and not in my size unfortunately. I even spotted my Japanese friend in that dress on a photo on Facebook; it just looks good on everyone.

as I wrote, those ruffle print batch from the japanese and korean designers are for UT. U of uniqlo and T of t-shirt
while costello tagliapietro stuff is DIP which is the original idea seen in this thread that designers do capsule collections for uniqlo.
basically pushing their character within more restriction is asked of the designers doing UT.

i heard something about rick owens doing stuff for uniqlo.. anyone else heard this as well?
sounds pretty exciting to me

wow, where did you read that? i hope it is true!:woot:

wow, that's crazy. too bad i'm in the us now, the uniqlo store would be ravaged entirely if that collection happened!

Thanks for teh update, runner

I guess targeting the hipsters in New York was such a huge success that they are now taking their lookbook imagery in that direction. I`m not such a fan, I much prefer the slicker look from before, personally. The purple and beige piece on the left looks intriguing. Uniqlo always falls flat with their silhouettes though.

you're welcome mishahoi

yeah---more like SOLD OUT now!...

i randomly went into uniqlo last weekend and found some pieces...
but there are no dresses...
i think they were all sold already!
:(

i tried the first tunic top...
and while i love the details, it's just not cute on me...
the tank is cute, but it is SO similar to a yohji tank that i have, so that's not an option...
and the one piece romper is quite difficult...
*a lot of draped fabric and ...well...just a lot of fabric...:ninja:...

in the end i got the last jacket ( the less yellow colour) - which i confess that i LOVE!...
...
it is a very 80's silhouette and reminds me SO much of something that i actually wore way back when...(that was by max studio-a very cool 80's brand)...
i bet i can even dig up that cardigan and the matching top and skirt...
:P

but i am very pleased with this and plan to wear it with an isabel marant black mini that was given to me by miss luckyme!...
*thanks again for that miss...
and thanks runner for the images...
:flower:

at least now i can see what i missed...
maybe what i got was really the best thing for me after all!...
:P

uniqlo is collaborating with laura ashley next month. but its just t shirts. not anything weird (which i think could have worked better)

the undercover for uniqlo collection should debut on march 16 (when their new ginza store reopens) has anyone in japan seen images?

i wish uniqlo had an e-shop....the undercover collab sounds brilliant! still wish i had some things from +J.....i could live that entire collection and be happy,to be honest. too bad it ended.

i read somewhere, and i can't remember where, so i don't know if it's true..
but i read that naoki takizawa (from issey miyake) is now working for uniqlo...

anyone know anything about this?

Well they do have an e-shop but only for the UK. I wish they had an international one, too. I loved the +J collections, as well. I'm glad there was still a lot of it left in the sales when I went to London after Xmas as I nabbed quite a few great things but the fact that there won't be another collection makes me so sad :(

Looking forward to the Undercover collaboration, too!

I recently realized that I've never bought anything from any of the designer collaborations with H&M, Target, etc. but I always get something from the Uniqlo ones. Best designer collaborations by far!

it's true and the link should be in one of the profile comments.

i read an article recently that uniqlo as they've become more popular around the NYC area are planning to expand US locations. i'm kind of ambivalent about the idea because i'd be afraid it would somehow go down that same path as H&M has....overly trendy and the quality would decrease even more. i'd rather see an e-shop open up.

i have to say i like their collabs more than other companies. they always have strong designers and none of it is as over-hyped as others. i think the first one i ever saw was the one alexandre plokhov did when he was still designing cloak...and i had such an affinity for those pieces. and i love what suzuki is doing. the end result is usually very easy and quiet in that way you would want disposable fashion to be marketed. i've only ever bought anything from target and most of that went to my sister, mom and female friends. otherwise the only thing i own collab-wise is a duffle bag from libertine.
