Designers You've Met

Yeah,Dries was walking the opposite side of the street as I one day....and he gave a very hawk-like glance. And I was in Walter and the man himself was there staring at me like an owl....unfortunately,as I said,I didn't have the guts to really approach him at the time. I was sort of still standoff-ish and timid. Belgian designers I notice are extremely observant.

Some of you all are really lucky to have met some of the one's you have.

edit: I forgot to add that Dirk Van Saene walked right passed me brushing against me. I didn't realise till a few feet down the pavement that it was actually him.

Walter does look scary, but then a friend of mine went to a few of his parties in the early nineties and he's a sweetie, apparently. They all seem a bit timid actually, Dries, and Walter and Raf... (although Dries did loosen up after a couple of drinks!). Maybe it's being Belgian and they need some alcohol before they loose their observant gaze

Valentino who designed my wedding dress!! I LOVE HIM AND HES SOOOOOOOOOOOO HANDSOM AND CHARMING! He made me feel like im the most gorgeous woman out there...i didnt want the dress to finish so i can see him...we are still intouch..well kind of..but had dinner with him at punny in portofino this past summer...j'adore!

I met Helena Christensen (a model-does that count as a fashion celebrity?) years ago when I worked at MAC. This was about the same time she announced her retirement; I believe afterwards she became involved with a magazine as a photographer.

She was very beautiful, and I was surprised that she seemed down to earth and was relatively social towards me. She did not have an attitude; some famous people can be annoyed that you recognize them. Not her, though.


saw ms christensen at the Flea Market last weekend in NYC!!!! she is beautiful!!!

designers I have met, Rei Kawakubo and yohji Yamamoto- both very reserved and quite, Rei more so! strong personalities, your almost afriad to move or even say anything to them.. Dean and Dan of Dsquared, last nyc fashion week.
Zac Posen at one of his trunk shows...he was so busy talking it up with customers that I was standing by him while he spoke to some badly dressed woman who was drooling over him. I picked up one of his dresses off the rack and dropped in between him and I so as to get his attention. He bent over and picked it up, of course I appologized for it but thats how we started talking he was kind and generous. its good to see that in designers.

ive met Betsey Johnson twice once at dinner and once this septemeber for the show castings. She was the nicest person designer i have ever met. When I met her at dinner i told her how much i adore her clothes and she sent a dress to my agency for me. a press sample amazing!

ive met Marc Joacobs at a show casting again. not the nicest

Tommy Hilfiger, Nicole Miller at yet another casting.

I met Paul Smith in his curiosity shop in Albemarle Street last weekend. I bought some tea towels so he started chatting with us. He's very nice, and tall!

Also Kris van Assche at his studio in Paris...Jessica Ogden at Fabric during Stussy's party...Mark Lebon at his studio...

Oh... how could I forget about Jessica Ogden and Jean Touitou (A.P.C.) ... and I´ve seen Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto in their own showrooms, Yohji looked very edgy in his vagabond-esque attire (worn out boots and coat with his grey-ish, long hair) while I remember Rei being VERY, VERY petite.

The only designers I've ever "met" were Dean and Dan Caten...but this was way before DSquared, when they used to work with my mom at Ports. Apparently there's a picture of me, the twins, and my mom and grandma having afternoon tea somewhere in our family's picture archive...I of course was too young to remember that, I was one at the time.

nice thread i've met Issey Miyake 4 years ago at JDF award ceremony in Osaka - he was really nice, he asked me to say something in bulgarian to get an impression what it sounds like i was too shy to ask him questions...
finally he gave me his business card - and guess what - i didn't have one to give back...
