I don't know, I really felt it emotionally for Dexter in those last minutes of the finale. He finally thought he found a true partner, and she leaves him after she had no more use for him. He keeps getting these glimpses of potential "human-ness" and acceptance, but then it's always taken from him and he goes back to thinking of himself as a monster. He's been used all his life...

It's insane how this show makes me empathize and feel for a serial killer...

Yup!
Sometimes I surprise myself "rooting" for Dexter and feeling sorry for him when he must stay with his family (Rita, the kids) and he cannot go out and kill people.

Also I hated Doakes for chasing him...and then I thought....Duh he´s a criminal and Doakes is a policeman!!!

Dexter takes us to follow his sick logic....

This season was not my favorite, but the writing in this show is so good.
Sometimes I think any episode of Dexter, Boardwalk Empire, In Treatment, House, Weeds can give MANY hollywoods big feature films a run for their money. It´s so rare to see great scripts and great acting in movies, and some TV shows have gotten so good and "meaty", compared to the watered down plots in so many movies...

Couldn't agree more! Sure the last season of Dexter was a little lackluster (I mean how can you top the season 4 finale!!!) But Dexter season 5 is a hell of lot better than the typically structured blockbusters Hollywood has been pumping out. I'd watch any tv show on Showtime or HBO than sit through another Jennifer Aniston movie snoozefest

It was my favorite season so far.
And the ending.. I partly disagree with you guys. The love-line was fantastic, for the first time I really believe in Dexter's feelings. The rest of it (Debra, Quinn, kids) was really fuzzy.
Looking forward to season 6!

P.S. I'm in love with the OST (specially slow guitar theme that was playing in the end).

Just finished season 5 a little late I know but I just got my computer back after 2 months. I liked the ending I wanted Deb to find Dexter and know it was him. I think that could have been done better. I don't know why I want him to be caught but not punished for he what he does. I like that the kids are playing into the end of the season I want them to focus more in season 6.

I liked the first episode very much. I hope they can keep up the plot. Loved the high school reunion, a very "grosse pointe blank" moment for him, as a serial killer....

My thoughts exactly. I actually thought it was bad even if it were a regular episode let alone a season opener. But Colin Hanks does creepy sooooo well. He was good as the pastor on Mad Men, too.
