Marrimoda I think you have explained perfectly how to prounce the "c" from balenciaga, I didn't thought about "thi", because my English phonetics is so bad,
but know I think that it's the most similar.

Yppe -- I think in general that pronounciation is quite difficult to discuss without some audio demonstration...but oh well.

Maybe you also speak Catalan?

Everyone remembers the scene from the classic "bad movie" showgirls, where the heroine says proudly " I just bought this dress from VER-SACE "
And is promptly shot down and told "It's pronounced VER-SACH-CHI"

If you, like me, get most of your fashion information from vogue, you really have no way of knowing how to pronounce things.
I for instance went into my local neiman marcus and asked 'where are the (Mui Mui)MWEE MWEE bags?

Do you mean (Mui Mui) MYOO MYOO?

I of course was terribly embaressed, and want to keep others from this terrible fate. Anyone who actually knows how to pronounce these things please post.

my friend made a big deal out of me saying yves saint laurent wrong. it still makes me feel uncomfortable trying out new words. so insecure that i had to go find a website that would tell me how to pronounce the word. here is the website:

oh man. i know these words should be pronounced correctly, but half of you guys shouldn't diss those who can't pronounce them correctly. i got hell from someone for pronouncing yves saint laurent wrong. i mean, kill me if i have no ounce of knowledge in those things. i try, i really do. but i can't know EVERY pronounciation.

it's easier to pronounce it correctly if you SPELL it correctly...
then you can sound it out...

Junya Watanabe is pronounced like in French...Juhn-jah Wat-ah-nah-bay?

PS I know he's Japanese (duh) but as Comme is a French name I thought that they might have Gallicised their names.
